If you "Know" the battery is dead, there is no point in pressing any buttons.

If you press harder, and do not know the battery is dead, you are doing so because you thing the first press was not hard enough.

Because you refuse to acknowledge that the battery is dead, and hope that by pressing it harder, you won't have to change the battery right away.
