Am redecorating our flat, (we rent) landlord said I could pick out any color I want, now she got burned by her sister on a bunch of chocolate brown colored carpet. So if I want carpet thats what I'm getting. My original idea was to go with lt sage on the walls, some kind of tan or beige carpet lt bl trim in the living room and a gold color trim in dining room (rooms flow together. I have big med blue area rug and new blue and white curtains in there in the dining room I have big brick red area rug and creme colored curtains. So what new color scheme would be good so everything comes together. It is a very small space so I cant do any drk colors, want it to feel light and airy, and would like to stay away from browns and beiges but I dont know if I will be able Any suggestions? Also the wood floors look like crap so not an option.

If your carpet is going to be chocolate brown I would suggest a tourquiose colour for the walls. It is a very in colour right now and looks great with choc. brown.

I have to say that with all the different colors going on at your flat, you obviously have to make a few changes in order to have "everything come together". Chocolate brown carpeting is better than none. One plus is that it won't show the dirt that easily, so go with that positive attitude.

My thought is to paint all your walls with an "ice blue" (or very subtle hint of blue) which will blend with the carpet. Keep the medium blue area rug and blue and white curtains in the living room.

In the dining room, paint over the gold trim with the same ice blue color to tone things down a little there and make the living and dining rooms really flow together. The brick red area rug will not go well at all, so roll it up and put into storage for your next home. But the cream-colored curtains in the dining room can stay -- maybe dress them up a little with medium blue tiebacks to bring the two rooms even more together.

What better paint color than ice blue or some other very light shade of blue to give you a fresh, light and airy feeling -- just like being outside with a crystal blue sky!!

Good luck!

Beige carpet is lasting and goes with just about everything. The wall colors sound great. Greens and yellows are always light and airy if they're light enough. Don't be afraid to throw a darker color in there too, if your furniture is dark than that will do the trick. Mauve is also nice with that color scheme, as well as some peach or burnt orange to spice it up a little. The best thing to do is go to a home store and walk down the aisles of throw pillows and curtains, the color will speak to you.

I would continue along the lines of your original idea. Just pretend the floor (brown carpet) is dark wood stain and lay your rugs/runners, etc. on top.
