It's possible you are releasing the club too early, so the club is getting ahead of your hands, closing the club face, leading to a pull/hook, or a duck-hook. When I am hitting the ball left and ugly, that's my problem. If you are releasing the club too late, however, that leads to a push/slice. Your hands are way in front of the club, leading to a wide open club face. That was one of the main reasons Tiger Woods recently revamped his swing again. His club wasn't keeping up with his hands, so he kept losing drives way right.
A solid golf swing is all about tempo and timing. If your timing is the slightest bit off, you lose control of where the ball will go. Spend some time on the range hitting balls with a half-swing, just to get your timing back. Once you start hitting balls more consistantly, gradually work your way back to a full swing. Usually just a slight adjustment, that's all.

If you are used to hitting long and glorious drives, you most likely remember what it took to get to that. You most likely also know that A LOT of different things could be the cause of your present issues. I recommend paying for some time with a pro or at least using a video camera and watching your own swing from multiple angles. This helped my swing out tremendously - Good Luck!

Try taking the club back in a low sweeping arc fully extended arms ending with your left shoulder under your chin and hesitate just a fraction at the top of your swing then come through the ball staying balanced through the swing releasing the left side. Get a tape or book concerning Ben Hogan and his swing plane. No one has had a better swing that Hogan.

On the positive side - at least you are hooking the ball rather than slicing it. It sounds like you may be coming across the ball a little. If I were you, I would just spend a little time at the driving range and see how small variations in your swing effect the ball. In many cases, a severe hook can be easily corrected by opening the club face (via a minor alteration with your grip). For best results - just be patient and keep practicing.
good luck,

You might be trying to "kill it". When you swing too hard you have a natural instinct to turn your wrist right or left, in your case probably left (mine too). Before you swing, line up to where you want the ball to go, get in your stance, and relax your grip. Make sure your grip doesn't change when you are in your backswing, and don't kill the ball. Follow through afterwards with the head of your club pointing where the ball should go.

On your sling it is most likly you are coming from the inside out cause the ball to have spin in a.... counter clockwise direction. Try to extend your hands through the whole swing and kind of wrap or club around you. Dont finish your swing so high.

You have gained to much confidence and are now trying to really nail the ball. Slow down and do the 1, 2, 3 pace in your head.

you might be swinging to much across your body on your through swing....unless your doing this now you need to launch your club head at your target, swinging across your body causes you to hit closer to the hosel wich then sends it left...

hit me back, i want to see if thats the problem....
