I say yes.
Evil is relative to the situational environment. As the inverse of "good" it will exist as that antonym in perpetuity. You can learn of evil without doing evil deeds; but it is history which ultimately differentiates evil from say -- "misguided" or merely "bad" ...
No doubt Nazi culture evolved from a patriotic movement which became corrupted with the traditions of men.
The evil genocide in Darfur was not always viewed upon by International Criminal Court as injustice.
Surely evil will exist as long as there is good to balance it out in the opinion of the world. The ebb and flow of public opinion -- while sometimes fickle and slow -- ultimately gravitates to a level succeeding generations either applaud or condemn.
Such is the nature of good and evil. Absolute, yet relative to who did what to whom and when -- and just who were the victors left to write history.

If there is good, there is evil. If there is white, there has to be black. If there is light, there has to be darkness. If there is truth, there will be lies. Good cannot exist without evil - they are the two sides of the coin.
If you have good thoughts, you will also have evil thoughts. Evil is nothing but the opposite of good.
And yes, you can find stories of the evil deeds of people in the library, or even on the news every day. You don't have to do evil deeds to understand evil.
If you understand the concept of Yin and Yang - the opposite forces, you will understand why good and evil has to co-exist.

A lot of us do know how to learn from the mistakes of others (say from a book), but lets face it, as good as we are at that, we still end up having to make a lot of our own mistakes too.
