First I would like to say that Vodou is not a cult and it is not demon worship. It is a monotheistic religion the reveres Bondye (God). We also honor our ancestors and serve the lwa. The lwa are the equivalent to saints or angels.

Now onto your question Opera is mainly a music that is European in origin, I believe Italian. Jazz, rock and roll, even country are said to have derived from African drum rhythms though. Here is a website about opera. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opera

Some Christians think any religion that is pagan is demon worship. It's true that rap music has some roots in African tribal music, but to call it Devil worship is to superimpose the images of Christianity on cultures that developed completely independently from Christianity. It sounds like a smug colonialist attitude to me.
As for opera, it was developed in Gregorian chants as early as the Middle Ages, while Voodoo is a mix of Christianity and African tribal religions that slaves to the new world brought with them. So it is historically impossible for opera to have been derived from Voodoo since its development far predates voodoo.

The comment on Rock N Roll- not entirely untrue. The rhythyms of hoodoo ritual are the same rythyms that ultimately inspired the blues and jazz sounds that led to rock music. That is to say, they both came from African traditions that were certainly not christian.

Now... an opera/demon worship connection? I somehow doubt that...

As to the first part of your question, NO. As the to the commentary/question in the second part: There has always been a strong African/Caribbean influence in "Black" music. Jazz being one example, spirituals another. So what? It is still great music. Rap on the other hand, they just forgot the put the "C" on the front when they named it. YBIC

The rhythm of music does not have spiritual properties. Therefore, there is no validity in critiquing a style of music as demonic.
