In the Bible Jesus was fasting in the desert and Satan was tempting him.

Since we know the Gospels are eyewitness accounts then was someone was watching Jesus sitting on a rock talking to a snake in the desert?

Or were they watching him shouting "Get thee from me Satan" to an invisible friend.

I think if I was fasting in the desert, I would probably hallucinate that the snakes could talk too.

The Gospels do not say that the devil came to Christ in the form of a snake. Most likely he appeared in some type of bodily form.

Yes, the Gospels are eyewitness testimony. Obviously, there were things that were told to them by Jesus Himself that they may not have seen. This does not disqualify them from being eyewitnesses since repeating what one heard obviously qualifies.

This one is not that hard to deduce.

people on vision quests, such as going into the desert for 40 days, often took along certain hallucinogenic substances to enhance the experience. it is just as likely he was talking to a snake as to anything. it could just as easily been a twig, a rock or even just a particularly dense pocket of air.

I'd have to read a big chunk of the bible to try to figure out who was watching, and I reeeeeeally don't want to. But the mental picture of him talking to himself or a snake is too funny.LOL
