I have two missionaries visiting me, and I'd like to share the Gospel with them. I just want to know if anybody has successfully won a Mormon to Christ. The last time some missionaries were visiting me, I challenged one of them to answer why, if in the afterlife, he would be able to work himself up to the level of perfection, that Christ's sacrifice has to be "infinite and eternal" (Alma 32). They transferred him rather suddenly after this, and he has not been allowed to contact me.
PS. I'm not interested in reading responses from anybody who doesn't think I should be doing this. If you post a gripe response, you risk being reported for trolling. This is not a forum, this is Yahoo! Answers. If you don't like my worldview, go cry in a chat room . . . somewhere else.

Anybody who thinks that salvation is dependent on taking what Jesus did and then add something to it is, in short, not being consistent with Scripture. "Jesus Paid It All," is how the old hymn goes.
Also, it is a fact that some Mormon missionaries get transferred if they ask too many questions. In my particular case, on our last visit he took several pictures of the two of us and was supposed to e-mail them to me. Never heard back from him OR the one that stayed in town.

OK, you may report me for this and thats OK, because I actually answered your question in here... This isn't just a gripe answer...I don't mind that I'll probably be reported, but please actually read my answer first! I also explained what your missionary couldn't... if you report me, like I said, I don't really care! I have the answers, and even if you don't like my entire answer, I really did answer your question...
Point 1: You cannot "win a Mormon to Christ". We are already Christians - thus our real name, "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints"
Point 2: The rules are very very strict about what the missionaries can hear. You will not be able to get to them because they will be transferred very often, in their two years they often serve in 8 different areas. (as little as 3 months per area)
Point 3: The reason you couldn't get a good answer from him is because in the "after life", or post-mortal existance, you cannot "work yourself" up to the level of perfection. During your earthlife, you repent and achieve perfection. The only thing that may be considered "working up to perfection" is temple ordinances, which allow people who didn't have the opportunity to hear the true gospel to be baptized, married, etc. in the temple and achieve the ultimate goal of exaltation.

Of course, there are people that change religions all the time; people will find a religion that is comfortable for them. However, you will definitely not get anyway through arguing. Missionaries are told not to argue or "bash" with others, because you will never get anywhere with someone that only wants to prove you wrong (because they are not open to what you are saying). Additionally, arguing is just disrespectful. If you are allowing missionaries into your home just to try and convert them, then I understand why they aren't coming around anymore, they have people to teach and find that really do want to know what they believe.
As to working to perfection in the afterlife...that is not an accurate teaching. What ever you do in this life will essentially determine your state in the afterlife (with some exceptions - temple work). Christ's sacrifice was infinite and eternal. The religion teaches that we must work out our salvation while we are in this probationary state (mortal). Christ is the only way they believe they can obtain perfection.
In addition to not contacting you because you may seem unteachable and not willing to learn, many missionaries do not stay in touch with people in different areas they serve, because they are both busy and it is the religion they are spreading, not friendship (although that too often exists).
Good luck. I have studied hundreds of religions, and will always be respectful of all beliefs, as I would hope we all would.

Um, no offense but you sound like a little kid waiting by the telephone waiting for your crush to call.
I was a missionary, and I'm 99.99% sure that the transfer had NOTHING to do with you in the slightest. And the reason why the other one doesn't visit you, is because maybe you don't have enough real interest in the gospel, so they are visiting other people.
Trying to convert a "Mormon" is like trying to convert Jesus to Christianity. No point, we already are.
'Mormon' was just a nickname given to us, in one way so people could avoid our real name The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Just because they are Baptists doesn't mean they worship John the baptist right? Don't listen to people who are Anti-Mormon, and in fact don't listen to us members either, but read and pray for yourself, we cant force the gospel to you, and we don't need to prove it. You should find out for yourself, If your not ready then move on until you are.
We believe in the same Heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ that you do, we just know a little more about them

I'm not going to gripe you, just letting you know that LDS missionaries get transferred all the time, it's very normal, and this one getting transferred and no longer being able to talk to you is a very normal occurrence, and has nothing to do with you personally.
I served an LDS mission and other people did share their beliefs with me, and I thought it was great. I mean I never converted, but I like being able to understand what people believe and to know what beliefs we have in common. I think it's a good healthy thing to learn about different beliefs like that.
Thanks.

I am sure there have been Mormons who have decided that religion was not for them. You have every right in the world to express how you feel...and so do the missionaries.
For you to say to "win a Mormon to Christ" is an insult to me. I am LDS and have been my whole life. I love my Savior. I know he suffered in Gethsemane for my sins and yours and every person who ever lives. I also know that UNLESS we take advantage of the Atonement, what he did was pointless. We believe that one must do all they can in this life - obey the commandments, be baptized, repent, live as Christ-like as possible and THEN after all we have done, Christ will make up the rest that we lacked. I know that is a hard concept for a lot of people to grasp - you apparently. That is OK, that is your own choice. Just please, give us that opportunity also, to make our own choices. Don't just assume that since we don't believe exactly as you do, that we are "wrong" and do not believe or love our elder Brother, Jesus Christ.

The correct name of the Mormon church is "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints". I think Mormons are already converted to Christ.
By the way, what makes you think the atonement ends with this life?

This is from my possess enjoy. If we see that the younger Mormon elders are within the equal vicinity, we frequently pass to one more segment. We check out to not overload the individuals. Most the "elders" do a hit and miss type of ministry, and have a tendency to pass plenty of residences. I feel they get instructional materials of interested ones within the subject that spoke back to considered one of their TV or Magazine advertisements. In our subject, they most commonly experience on bicylces, so in the event you see a pair younger guys parking a motorbike in entrance your condo, you recognize who's coming on your door. We, then again, attempt to get to each and every condo in an subject.

I know a lot of Mormons and I would say that they are living closer to the ideals of Jesus teachings than most Christians. They may have some strange beliefs but in their day to day lives I have a lot of respect for them.

That's the way Mormon missions work. They are transferred very frequently and to a completely different city. It had nothing to do with your thinking you had somehow stumped him.
And Mormons are already "won to Christ."
Have you not been paying attention??

You're wrong there - they get transfered for other reasons.
We have to obey all of God's commandments and live worthily of returning to live with our heavenly father. Not just sit around and say "well Jesus did all of the work for me." Come on...
