I never heard such a thing, and I seriously doubt. Nixon had seen political adversity before and never died from it. He didn't seem too shy about expressing his feelings, either.
Gerald Ford pardoned Nixon to put an end to the circus so the country could move ahead. Nixon was never impeached, let alone indicted. He resigned rather than put the nation through that.

No. How old are you? Go back & read all the newspapers at the time. President Ford pardoned President Nixon to stop the same thing that happens on Q&A everyday. The ripping apart of our great nation. A civil war whether physical or verbal can destroy a nation. We are off to a great start destroying our nation. It is sad that what no nation has been able to accomplish will be done by uneducated & overeducated youth.

Where did this come from? The only reason President Ford pardoned Nixon was to bring closure to a very unhappy time. If it had gone to trial, it would have dragged on for years, tearing the country apart. And remember, a pardon carries with it an implication of guilt, so he did not say he is innocent, he said he is guilty but we need to end this.

No, Gerald Ford pardoned Nixon to stop the political fighting and start the healing process. I was pretty pissed at him at the time but now realize that it was the best course of action and I now support his decision.
