I'm 44 and single. Is dating a 28 year old woman breaking any sort of moralistic rule or anything? If not, what is the youngest I could date without being labled strange? Will girls in their mid to late 20's even date 44 year old men... or is a 44 year old man considered antique or crusty?

At 44, you are considered soundly MIDDLE-AGED. Most women will certainly laugh at you for not being able to handle somebody closer to your own age. The term "cradle robber" springs immediately to mind.

Its a seemingly large age difference, but I see nothing wrong with it.

Some 28 year old women are mature enough to date a forty plus man. Some aren't.

As far as a cut off, late 20's is when most women have gotten past the party syndrome, and are looking for something more steady and permanent.

If you want to date a party girl, 20's is pretty much where you'll find them, though some girls party into their 30's or later...

As far as antique or crusty - yes, some younger women would probably feel that way - other's might admire or desire the maturity.

Its really pretty much woman to woman...

And again, socially I see no problem with it... in Russia, older men are often preferred. And in Iran older men marry girls as young as nine (which seems pretty gross to me, but whatever).

Just do what feels right - if the two of you enjoy one another, then stay together. Who cares what anyone else thinks?

44 Years Old Woman

I don't see anything wrong with you dating someone in their twenties. In my opinion, as long as their legal, you can date them. However, I have to wonder why you would want to date someone that young. Unless you are only looking for sex - because more than likely, you are not going to have that much in common with a woman that age. We are talking 16+ years. I would think you would have a lot of differences when it comes to interests. I dated several older men when I was in my twenties, and although the sex was pretty good, when it came down to it, we didn't have enough of the same interests.

I am not saying it can't work, and that if you are just playing the field cause you're newly divorced and you don't want to get back into a commited relationship right away, I can understand. May-Dec romances can work. Like most relationships, it just takes a lot of work, probably more than one where the ages are closer. However, if you are looking for a serious relationship, you might have better chances dating someone at least in their 30's.

Good luck in whatever you choose.

There is nothing wrong with an older man dating a younger woman, but all too often if it turns into a real relationship or marriage the age difference bring problems. A younger woman usually is what she is, a young woman with desires and wants as her age determines.
While the older man is more set in his ways and has a different set of rules and maturity that she still doesn't have as yet.
I have a very close friend who is in his fourties and women in their twenties are still attracted to him but other than dating them he is not really interested them since their youth and his maturity clash at some point if they get into a close relationship. So if you want to date young women, fine - why should you worry about what others think, it's your life and if she likes dating you, go for it.

A twenty-eight year old woman is old enough to make her own decisions about who she wants to date. Besides, there are only 16 years between you and I certainly wouldn't label that strange. (If she was ten years younger...that would be a different story!) If you both enjoy each other's company and are in a loving relationship, I wouldn't worry about what anyone else thinks.

Look at Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher. It's working for them.

And by the way, 44 isn't antique!

Okay if the girl is 21 and over, you are still okay with the dating. If you already dating a 28 year old, then you have your answer. It's not the age that matters that much to women, it's the maturity factor. No one finds you strange or weird, you are just normal. It's very normal for men your age to date women in their 20's. So go ahead and have fun. Good luck.

Are you really concerned about morality ? Your trying to figure out just how young you can possibly go. Whats wrong with women your own age ? Yes of course girls and women of all ages could and would date you. I personally have. I never looked at the relationship as serious and had no plans of staying with that person long term. He wasn't as old as my dad but he might as well have been. Although we had fun together I did think of him as a dirty old man because that's exactly what he is. Never would he be someone I would commit to because although he was good for fun and other things he's still a dirty old man.

Such a thing is not meant to last.

I have this friend at work who went though almost the exact same thing you are going through. He even went so far as to get the girl pregnant, and he decided to move out to where she was (east-west coast thing) buy a house - marry her and build a family.

4 - months into the pregnancy she flip-floped on him - for no reason. It was just immaturity. She wasn't willing to give up the rest of her youth to an aging guy - even when she was pregnant with the guys baby!

So think hard on this one chap - and don't get your expectations set too high because - unless you are just really loaded (with lots of $$$) or really callous and can take the abuse - it ain't worth the heartache.

Finding love at any age is a true miracle. If the age difference is bothering you then you should talk to your lady. Why are you worried about being labeled? You both are adults. Crusty and old? only if you want to be. Live your life as if each day could be your last.
