After a week I would recommend taking Fido to the vet, but if that's not in the cards, my vet told me it was ok to settle a dog's stomach with a spoonful of Mylanta or Pepto.

Your dog is a mix of breeds that can both have food allergies. I suggest you start testing by feeding only beef for a week. Try raw mince beef, diced beef raw and boiled with pumpkin, carrot and maybe some silverbeet. Then if no improvement try chicken. I'd also feed Asodphilus (1 tablespoon) each day to reline the gut and bowel. Many dogs can't tolerate the fats etc in prepared dog foods so take the time to do the home prepared stuff. It's cheaper anyway but just takes a bit of time to perpare.

I would call your vet if it has been lasting that long. But usually you have to put them on a blan diet of broiled chicken and rice. The rice is highly digestible and the chicken is a digestible protein. You continue with the diet until the stool hardens and the you gradually add the dog's normal food in again. Probiotics a natural stomach smoother also works real well. You can by it at an all natural petstore, it is the same thing as the cultures in yogurt. It helps settle stomach issues.

Diarrhea is NOT necessarily a sign of worms... I know it sounds gross, but collect a clean sample in a baggie and take it to a vet to test to make sure. Has the dog had a change in diet lately or gotten into the garbage or big given a type of treat it's not used to?? I would keep it on a regular feeding schedule with the same type of food with no treats until you get it cleared up.

Pepto can be given to dogs for a short time. You would need to call you vet to the weight/med ratio. HOWEVER... you should bring a fecal sample to the vet right away. Diarrhea can be caused by parasites and unless you are seeing rice segments (tapeworms) or spaghetti (round worms) you will need a fecal exam done to distinguish just what is going on in the intestines. Coccidia and others can not be seen in the stool.

A week! That's bad. Diarrhea can severely dehydrate your dog.

If the diarrhea wasn't severe, or hadn't gone on so long, I would suggest cooked ground beef with rice and feeding that instead of dog food. The rice helps to normalize the dogs functions.

Note: no spices, salt, pepper, etc. and definitely no onions.

It it has gone on for that long you should bring him to a vet. Unless he's been eating a lot of greasy food for some reason what you describe could be a sign of a medical condition.

When our dog had the problem you describe the vet said to give him only cottage cheese (in other words a bland diet).

When I bought my teacup chihuahua they said she could get diarrea if she was under alot of stess and could also get hypoglacoma anyways they said if it starts to give her a small amout of kyro syrup, well the first 2 days she had diarrea so I gave her some and ever since she's calmed down and fine. But if it goes on for longer you do need to at least call your vet and get a professional opinion just in case, you wouldn't want to loose your pet over something that may be preventable.

You should probaby take him to the vet. I know that my shih tzu hs had a severe stomach virus. The vet gave her medicine and also told me I could give her peptobysmal. You have to go by the weight. So dont give him to much but it wont hurt him. Also feed him plain boiled chicken and white rice for at least a week this will help to settle down his stomach. Hope it helps.

VET time. And I mean like yesterday. Animals with sever diarrhea will become dehydrated fast and this can lead to all sorts of problems, even death.
