The ancient Greeks believed that the mind and soul were the same thing, which where we get the word "psyche" - Mind-soul.
I'd modify this by saying that the soul and the EGO are the same thing. Just an opinion, of course.
As regards who I would be in my next life. It would be cool if we all felt so good about ourselves that we would want to carry on and not become someone new.

We do not have a soul, we are souls. What does the Bible teach about the soul?
At Genesis 2:7 it says: "And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul." (So Adam became a soul or a person.)
Leviticus 5:4: "Or if a soul swear, pronouncing with his lips to do evil, or to do good, whatsoever it be that a man shall pronounce with an oath, and it be hid from him; when he knoweth of it, then he shall be guilty in one of these." (A soul can swear)
Leviticus 7:27: "Whatsoever soul it be that eateth any manner of blood, even that soul shall be cut off from his people." (A soul can eat)
Leviticus 22:11: "But if the priest buy any soul with his money, he shall eat of it, and he that is born in his house: they shall eat of his meat." (Animals are souls too.)
Leviticus 23:30: "And whatsoever soul it be that doeth any work in that same day, the same soul will I destroy from among his people." (Souls can work and be destroyed)
Ezekiel 18:4: "Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die." Also Ezekiel 18:20: " The soul that sinneth, it shall die: the son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son; the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him." Also Revelation 16:3: " And the second poured out his bowl into the sea; and it became blood as of a dead man; and every living soul died, even the things that were in the sea." (A soul is not immortal--it dies)

Depends on what you mean by a soul! Depends on what flavour of religion you prefer. Me I'm a vanilla Buddhist, no soul, no self, no problem.
