Hi we want to buy a flat screen tv and fit it on the wall over the fire, does anyone know if this is ok and will the heat affect the tv in any way, or if anyone has done this and found it ok to do so. Thankyou.

The house I bought is designed to have the TV sit on top of the fire place as it is in a corner and the cable outlet and power are directly above the mantle.Just ask the guy you buy it from it should be okay -ours is a gas fireplace with an optional fan that blows heat I don't know about wood burning fireplaces.

BAAAAAD Idea.

1)Plasma TVs have a gas in them and are adversely affected by heat, they run pretty hot to start with.

2) Check your warranty, they will probably void the warranty, no fund to find out after the TV has died and you have tried to scream but my TV is warranted for the first year or five, and then they say, we have to check it out, walk in find the thing hanging over the fire place and say sooooo sorry, it's not covered.

I know it looks great, I know it's the best place, and I know there may be a cable box there and a power outlet, but not for your Plasma

Again BAAAAAAAD IDEA.

That doesn't sound like the greatest idea off all, I would pick another place away from a heat source like that. Electroincs life is reduced greatly from excessive heat. Keep them nice and cool and they last a long time.

although i dont know the numbers off the top of my head, head does effect flat panel TVs very negatively. i would definately steer away from that option.
