my dog was diagnosed with epilepsy a year ago. she is on meds twice a day. She will have a seizure every once in awile but its not as bad as it was. There really isnt anything else to know as long as you are giving them their meds and taking good care of them. There is nothing that will completely stop the seizures. although they may go weeks, months or even up to a year without a seizure. But do not under any circumstances think your pet is better and stop giving meds. seizures could be life threatening and its good to keep them on medicine for seizure control. i hope this helps

I have a dog who has seizures, too. He takes 2 meds twice a day. One thing to know, the seizures aren't hurting him. It is very scary to watch but they really are fine. We finally took him, Sonny, to a Neurologist who is a very calming factor in our lives living with seizures. I asked him, flat out, "Is he going to die?" and he said, "No, he will live the life length of any dog." I just keep remembering those words when the seizures start, he usually has more than one. Good luck and don't give up on your doggie. Love him lots and enjoy every moment you have with him!

Don't miss/skip medication doses.
Remember to keep him in a safe place DURING his seizures. Our dog still had an occaisional seizure while on meds and we just had to remember to get her to a safe place during the seizure; we used to have a corner in the kitchen with a soft bed, no sharp objects/corners near her; and we lined the corner with painters drop cloth cuz she'd loose control of her bowels during the seizure and vomit too. This was for easier clean-up on our part. We just had to remember that she had NO CONTROL during the seizures and could not hold her responsible for this. So be kind and understanding.
