65.4 You can marry (and divorce) little girls who have not yet reached menstruation age.

Our prophet married Ayesha at age 6 to comply with this aya. However due to her tender age he had to restrict himself to thighing before she reached age of 9.

Thighing is defined by Islamic scholar Khomeini in "Tahrirolvasyleh" fourth volume, Darol Elm, Gom, Iran, 1990 as follows:

"Thighing is a means for an adult male to enjoy a young girl who is still in the age of weaning; meaning to place his penis between her thighs, and to kiss her."

The following is from a committee of muslim ulema answering the question:

"the Prophet, the peace of Allah be upon him, practiced "thighing" of Aisha - the mother of believers - may Allah be pleased with her."

Apparently so. It can be argued that this is immoral by MODERN standards, but that Muhammad lived a long time ago, a different time with different customs. Unfortunately, there are still some Muslims who consider their Prophet's actions as an example to be followed even today.

The Grand Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini wrote: "A man can quench his sexual lusts with a child as young as a baby. However, he should not penetrate. Sodomizing the baby is halal (allowed by sharia). If the man penetrates and damages the child, then he should be responsible for her subsistence all her life. This girl, however, does not count as one of his four permanent wives. The man will not be eligible to marry the girl’s sister. It is better for a girl to marry when her menstruation starts, and at her husband's house rather than her father's home. Any father marrying his daughter so young will have a permanent place in heaven."

He also wrote: “It is not illegal for an adult male to 'thigh' or enjoy a young girl who is still in the age of weaning; meaning to place his penis between her thighs, and to kiss her.”

actually in the 600's when this happened in many countries all over the world, Including European 9 was not an uncommon age for girls to marry some countries went as low as two. Marriage however could not be consummated until the first menstral cycle........which happens usually between 9 and 11 (Remember the bible and Mary? At 13 was considered old not to be married and well past the age of woman hood. Remember Muhammad's time was less then 600 years after this). SO again take the context of the time it was quite standard practice. Also all records indicate a relationship that he indulged Aisha, she did remain with him until his death and held him while he died. Also Aisha had been previously betrothed and was dishonored when he refused to honor the betrohel because her family had converted to Islam. After the dishonor no man would have her so it was politcally proper for Muhammad to marry her and he was asked to do so. Finally some literature places Aisha closer to 12 when she came to live as his wife even though they were married before. You can marry (you may even be able to divorce) before the first menstral cycle but not consummate under any circumstances.

The Islamic legal manual ‘Umdat al-Salik, which carries the endorsement of Al-Azhar University, the most respected authority in Sunni Islam, stipulates: “When a child or a woman is taken captive, they become slaves by the fact of capture, and the woman’s previous marriage is immediately annulled.” Why? So that they are free to become the concubines of their captors. The Qur’an permits Muslim men to have intercourse with their wives and their slave girls: “Forbidden to you are ... married women, except those whom you own as slaves” (Sura 4:23-24).

After one successful battle, Muhammad tells his men, “Go and take any slave girl.” He took one for himself also. After the notorious massacre of the Jewish Qurayzah tribe, he did it again.
