All cats get in the middle of things - when you're reading a paper, grading papers, paying bills....it's like you looked at them and said "Yes, please come walk all over my stuff, stick your butt in my face, rub your head on the papers, and yes, if you want, lay down on all of it, too!!"
:) They want attention. Take a moment to pet him/her. Move them from where you are, pet them again, talk to them, and then go back to what you were doing.

Lol, you could be describing my cat! He loves to sit right in front of my monitor so I can't see the computer, sit on any magazines or newspapers I'm reading etc. I bet he's thinking "How dare she do anything other then attend to my needs, I am far superior and should be worshipped 24/7"

Definitely this cat loves you and wants to be noticed- albeit in an inconvenient way. Or maybe you just have a proactive cat that likes to read or just wants to help. That's what I always ask my cat- he doesn't like to fold laundry though...

My cat does the same thing like during christmas he would lay on the presents and wrappimg paper while i was trying to wrap! But he does it with everything laundry, video games! I think it makes them feel included, and close to us!

It sounds to me like your cat just wants your attention, and to spend time with you. My cat is like that, every time I do anything other than pet, or play with her, she is up in my buisness. If you want to do your thing without him/her bothering you, I would open up a can of kitty food, and put her near it. Your cat should take the bait.

A cat always feels it is necessary to participate in, if not supervise, all your activities!

my dog does that he comes and sit on top of whatever i am doing. if i am reading the newpaper he rips it. if i am reading a magazine he tries to take it away. I think they just dont like that you are paying attention to them at that particular time. good luck. :)

It is not a question of neccessity. It just shows how spoilt your cat is. All it wants is to catch all of your attention, that's all!! :)

I think it is sooo cute when they do that. It's like saying "Hey, look at me. I am more important than the newspaper. Pet me now!"
