I know a lot of people don't like GM, but I'm looking for a car... and it more or less "has" to be a GM because I have family that works for a GM dealership... and I want to (1) Get a good deal (2) Not hurt anyone's feelings.

I've been looking around, and both the Pontiac Vibe and the Chevrolet Aveo (hatchback) look nice to me. They have good gas mileage (which is important) and from what I understand they're pretty spacious and flexible for their size. I'm aware that the Vibe is essentially a Toyota and the Aveo is a Daewoo.

So, my question is... is the Vibe worth the extra money? Or is the Aveo almost as good? Are there any other GM cars that you would recommend over these two? I'd like to stay in the $15,000 range (tops) and, like I said before, good gas mileage and a spacious interior are important to me.

The Vibe is a much better car.

I've driven both and the Aveo is not bad for what it is. It is surprisingly roomy for such a small car and it gets reasonable fuel mileage, but I would fully expect the Toyota built Vibe to last much longer, be far more reliable and be a lot safer in an accident. It's just a better quality car all the way around and it's very apparent.

If you are buying a little runabout for short in-town trips and you're going to sell it after 3 years, then the Aveo is a fine choice. If you plan on keeping the car longer than that and want some longer term reliability and you want to take it on longer trips etc. then I would definitely get the Vibe.

There aren't any other GM cars I would recommend, especially not in that price range. If you're going to buy a GM car then the one that Toyota built is your best bet for certain.

i suggest the vibe because the aveo is total crap. Terrible gas mileage for the class of car and engine, and the whole car is just a steaming pile of crap. Daewoo should tell you everything (and i even like korean cars).

the vibe is definately worth it. theyre reliable, spacious, and pretty fun to drive.

sucks you have to buy a GM car. You could get a VW rabbit or honda fit or toyota Yaris for that. New.

Buy the Vibe. It is the same thing as a Toyota Matrix (same mechanics, engine, etc.) the only difference is the design of the front end. So, you can essentially buy a Toyota whitout hurting the feelings of your GM loving family.

My wife bought a Toyota Matrix (Pontiac Vibe) and she loves it to death. I'm about 6'1" tall and I have plenty of room in it, front and back. It's pretty spacious in the cargo area also. It has a decent amount of power and accelerates well, is decent on gas, and it looks pretty cool. I'd say go for the Vibe.
