Speaking in tongues is one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit but there are also demonic counterfeits of this gift along with people who babble because they are succumbing to peer pressure in their denomination.

As to your unflattering observation about people who belong to the Pentecostal denomination, I like what Pastor Zac Poonen (who speaks in tongues and is non-denominational) had to say about the gift of tongues. http://poonen.org/zac/

To paraphrase, he said

"People who think that speaking in tongues is a sign of a person being "spirit filled" need to see how that person who is speaking in tongues conducts them self when they are speaking in their native language. Someone who speaks in tongues at church on Sunday and who spends the other six days of the week yelling at their wife, isn't a spirit filled believer".

Friend. God put the gift of tongues in my Christin Life, & also the Interpretation of tongues, & Prophecy, Speaking in tongues, in the Religious world don't mean a thing, I have seen some speak in tongues & 5 minutes later cuss you out, But the True Gift Of Tongues is to edify the Body of Christ & that true person will live the same life in church & out of Church.

one million Cor thirteen:eight is speaking approximately while all believers are with the Lord. Then will the items vanish. None have vanished, but (I do not in my view consider there are apostles in these days). Not all believers are given the capability to talk in tongues (one million Cor 12:30).

I've never personally spoken in tongues, heard God speak to me in tongues, or heard another person speak in tongues, but I think that it could be possible.
