It's the food, or he's getting dental problems!!!
Bring him to the vet and pay $200 for dental, or START BRUSHING HIS TEETH! Toothpaste and toothbrush cost about $7 all together. Not human toothpaste, dog one. Preferable meat flavored.

You can try brushing his teeth with a kids tooth brush or they have them for dogs too, you can also get dog tooth paste. I use kids tooth paste, my dog seems to like that better.Only use a small amount though don't glob it on. Try the treats called greenies they help too thats in between the brushing, you can get the greenies in differant sizes to fit your dog big or small at the pet store. You are suposed to brush their teeth every day I only do it once a week and it seems to help my dog. Good luck

Try brushing his teeth daily. They sell special toothpaste and brushes for dogs. I also found Listerine-type dissolve-able mouthwash strips for dogs as well as an array of canine mints.

its normal usually but a five month old puppy is unusual since my german shepherd puppy got bad breath about 10 months ols until we started to brush his teeth more but i did change his diet more. I think your puppy should eat science diet brand food, especially the one focusing better vitamins and health because that includes teeth and does give better breath. you should try to add a bit more water.

My chihuaua (sp?) was about that age when her breath started smelling really bad. And I was confused because she was a puppy. But it turns out that it's normal. If you're really worried about it, just take him to the vet. He should be okay.

if it is an extreme and sudden change in his breath, i'd give your vet a call. could be a health problem if it has come on suddenly! no charge to call the vet, might be worth the piece of mind!

Could he be eating something out in the yard or at home when no one is there? Frogs, lizards, and some plants would cause really bad breath...

When they are losing their deciduous teeth and getting their adult teeth in, cats and dogs may have bad breath. It wouldn't hurt to check with your vet to be safe. :)
