where does it come from?? and why does my finger smell after picking it??

get in the bath tub and scrub your belly button. alot of people tend to skip right over there belly button. letting water run over it is not enough YOU MUST SCRUB!!...and your problem will be gone

Good grief. Lint is dead skin fallen off. Houses empty for long times aren't full of lint because there is not people shedding skin in them. Most everywhere on you lint merely falls to the floor, its just trapped by your navel. Over the years a mattress can double its original weight my mere incidental collection of lint. H2O2, which is water with an extra oxygen ion, named hydrogen peroxide, can be used to drop onto it to minimize odor and infection.

the belly button comes form the umbilical cord that was cut during birth you may want to see a doctor about that before it gets worst
