You can buy and bring it back. The tax ( GST=VAT) you paid can be refunded in Changi Airport by showing the tax invoice we get from the camcoder shop.

Additional info;
We can get reasonable prices of camcoder at Simlim Square, Singapore. Just be careful because most of the sellers try to sell their assesories instead.

Officialy you can only bring goods in the UK whose total value is less than £145 , without paying Custom. Refer to :

http://customs.hmrc.gov.uk/channelsPortalWebApp/channelsPortalWebApp.portal?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=pageTravel_InfoGuides&propertyType=document&id=HMCE_PROD_010220

But if its one Camcorder you are bringing back from Singapore, I dont think you will be in any problem if you dont declare it. If they do ask, you can always say that its the camcorder you took when you went from the UK anyway.

There are usually problems when you are buying 3 camcorders (one for your sister, one for a friend, etc)

Hope this helps and enjoy Spore

One camcorder backinto UK. I don't think there is a problem.

In Singapore apply for GST Refund when you purchase the item and claim the refund at Customs Counter at Singapore airport before you depart.

The US discount stores sale items and internet stores have as good prices as the best prices anywhere in the world. Unless you really know prices and models you will get eaten alive in Hong Kong shops. Thailand taxes electronics and gadgets there are MORE expensive. Thais sometimes drive to Cambodia to buy electric stuff. Singapore and Taiwan are OK. Sometimes you can find things not available in the US and few gadgets cheaper than US stores but not computers and not cameras Computers, cameras and high volume gadgets are commodity items and international trade is very effective. Buy where you can get service if you unfortunately need it. Thailand and Hong Kong are good places to buy clothes and gold chains.

Take it out of its box and throw away all the packaging. If you carry it home in just a camcorder bag with tapes you've shot, it'll look like you've had it for a while and you should get away with it.

Best thing to do is take it out of packaging and make it look like you have had it for years!
