Is it true that the British Government has created a tax for tourists travelling to London or is it just an internet fraud?

It's not true. The prices are so high that you'll feel like you're being taxed though.

First off, under what basis would London be able to assess the tax? Calculated as a percentage of what?

Secondly, many cities throughout the world charges a "tourist tax" although it isn't named as such. When you buy an airline ticket, you pay an airport fee. When you check into a hotel, an occupancy tax is tacked onto your hotel bill, and this tax rate is generally much higher than the sales tax rate (can be anywhere from 2 to 3 times higher). If you rent a car, the car rental place will charge a similar "usage" tax.

So every time you travel, you are being hit with "tourist taxes".

The airport tax is a sure thing, about the rest I don't know.
But in Glasgow, I remember I went to a little hostel and I pay less than the price...
Then if you take a bus, normal price...
Well, this is maybe right about renting a car as they have no security if anything happens except their own insurance..
But yet it seems a bit difficult to assess
