mplayer has an encoder facility that lets you change almost any video to other formats, not easy to use though but once you get the hang of it, it works like a charm. You can find it here:

the best solution for converting video is ulead video studio 9(for experts) or ulead video toolbox 2.0(for amateurs). you can download it via limewire, shareaza or a bittorent app
