Seriously... I don't think it is a 'red light' area and I'm not trying to be rude/funny. But really need to know if this area exists in New York? And if anyone knows of a good hotel in that area.

It's the Meatpacking District, and yes it really exists.

Meatpackers area is around 14th street and Hudson. It is an area that way back when the meat came into an area and most of the original factories where to bring in the cows whatever and cut them up for distribution... There is a great steak house there way better than your traditional ones(but i can't remember the name of it). Great little shops down there as well cheese, bakery, fish, etc... also another great place is between 6th and 7th ave on 21st street another awesome dinning experice with the surf and turf.(But today I am brain dead can't remember the resturants' name)

Now as far as trendy places I've heard times square is good, but since I stay with my dad when I am there I really have no real knowledge to say that's a fact, but I have heard that even if your room is cheap they'll kill you on the cost of your car lodging. So try to take the train or subway if you are on your way there.

Have fun!!

I heard there were plenty of meatpackers in Times Square. Should only cost you a 20 spot.
