I took out these books with videos on it to help my aunt learn english from my public library. I have not returnrd it and it has been more than 3 months now. They charge a dollar a day for late returns. Should i return it and waste my money or should i forget about it. What can I do?? If i return it it would be more than $90 dollars.
Help me please!!!!!

Contact the library and see what you owe. Also, usually libraries will decrease late charges when you return your item, because they no longer need the money to replace it.

Check with your library, see what you can work out. Tell them that you can't afford to pay that kind of late fee.

Worst case scenario, you can return the books/videos and refuse to pay the fee. This way they have their property. They can't put late fees into collections. It's a library. Also, with the books/videos returned, they can't claim that they gave you something and you didn't pay. It'll be the other way around: They are trying to charge you for something that you don't even have.

Either way, it's a library, it's not that serious. You won't get arrested, your credit score won't be ruined. You're fine.

Contact the library and ask how much you owe. Many library systems have a limit on how high the fees will rise - this is to encourage people to return items even after extended periods. Also, ask the replacement price of the item. You can then choose to pay the lower of the two prices. Finally, return the video immediately! Send it by mail if you are embarrassed to return it in person. Don't deprive the library and other people of the use of it because you made a simple mistake. Believe me they will be happy to have it back.

I've occasionally returned something VERY late. Sometimes the fee is waived or reduced by the librarian at the desk. You never know until you try. Good luck.

MOST TIMES, not always, but MOST TIMES, fines top out at the cash value of the video. If you are lucky, that's not more than $30. Call them and ask them over the phone if you don't want to face them. They won't come get you over the phone. JUST ASK!
