Obviously those first British immigrants had accents, as well as those from other countries. But at what point did they mix and blend so that we end up with what we have today?

Accents and language evolve. The accents in Boston are different from those of New York or Atlanta or New Orleans or Dallas. Likewise the accents in various neighborhoods of London are different. If you go to the rural areas of England, an American may not recognize speech there. Intonnations are influenced by immigrants and education and media. We now have radio and televion so we can hear the spoken word from afar. Prior to television or the audio recorder, dielects varied from village to village.

Languages and accents are fluid things that are in constant evolution, so it's impossible to point to a specific momment when the the American accent changed. The British accent (and I use this loosely as there are many different British accents) has changed since the American colonial period as well. In both cases, there was no one day when everyone woke up and decided to talk differently than they did the day before.

There is no general American accent except for the one used in newscasts--that's called American Standard English. You answered your own question in that they blended with languages other than English to create what we have now. Different regions of the country had different settlers and indigenous languages as well.

That depends on the region of the country. Some parts of England sound a lot like some parts of Georgia and S.C. some parts of Minnesota sound like people from New Castle. America is a big place, you have to be more specific as to what an American accent sounds like.
