John express doubts in the following verse.

Jesus did answer John, you have to keep on reading.

Mat 11:4 Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see:
Mat 11:5 The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.

John was in jail facing a likely execution. To be in a situation like that may not seem to be the expected outcome to a servant of the Messiah. Surely Jesus would come break him out. After all in Isaiah a propehcy states that the Messiah would proclaim liberty to the captives. Yet here he was a dirty dark dungeon. I can't blame him. Many a strong Christian has doubted in unpleasant circumstances. Perhaps not doubting if God is real or that Jesus was the son of God, but doubt that Jesus cares or that he is able. So we ask, "Are you really who you say you are? Are you our healer? Are you provider? Are you really capable of (fill in the blank)?" So John sent 2 of his friends to ask Jesus "Are you the one that is to come or should we look for another?" Jesus gentle reply was, “Tell John what you have seen and heard: the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up and the poor have the gospel preached to them.” This was a great answer because this is what God's Kingdom looks like! No disease, no bondage, no poverty, no death. So John would understand that these things prove that Jesus is the one. And I am sure he came to the realization that you can't interpret everything base upon your own experiences. After all the universe does not revolve around John. Nor does it revolve around you or me. While we can get amazing glimpse of his power now we don't get the full picture becasue his Kingdom has come in part but not yet in its fullness So we may hurt now and from that hurt we may even doubt, yet a time will come when Jesus the Messiah will usher his Kingdom into its fullness. No hurts and no doubts!

I am not sure that Jesus and John had that much contact with each other. Jesus was still in His Gallilean ministry, and John preached in the southern part of the country by Jericho so He may not have been all that familiar with Jesus teachings. Without cars, TV, phones, they may have not had that much contact. The only time the Bible records them together was at Jesus' baptism.
I think Jesus did give John a very straight answer for one who knew the scriptures. If Jesus had said "I am the Messiah" John would not know whether he was dealing with a liar or not. Jesus said it was the works He did that proved who He was. That could not be faked.

Because Matthew, Luke and John were three different accounts of Jesus' life. The authors of these gospels only knew what had been passed down by word of mouth. It's perfectly logical that they would have slight discrepancies.

Every man at one time or another, will have their faith get weak, But it will never fall, & Jesus didn't answer the question directly, he said go tell John that he seen the blind to see,& the lame to walk, That is an act of faith for John.

Perhaps he was sending the disciples who were the doubters. The question was posed by the disciples of John in the text and context. What makes you think it was John's question and not the question of the disciples of The Forerunner?

Because in those times when they were looking for a son of God, they were looking for someone in a more lavish, more appealing way. A King was born in a manger, wore rags for clothing. He resembled them and so it was hard for them to accept Him as the Son of God. They were alot of people calling themselves the "Messiah" John was making sure. Jesus makes us think for ourselves, that's why He posed the question of "Who do men say that I am, Who do you say that I am? Without faith its' impossible to please God. Without faith you'll never be able to understand God.

John never doubted who Jesus was. You countered your own question with your own ammunition.
