2 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup cornmeal
2/3 cup brewer's yeast
2/3 cup wheat germ
2 eggs
2 tsp. garlic powder
3 chicken or beef bouillon cubes
Dissolve bouillon in 1 cup of water. Mix all ingredients together. Roll out and cut to 1/8" thickness with a cookie cutter. You may need to use more flour when rolling out and cutting. Place biscuits on a greased cookie sheet and bake for 20 minutes at 375 degrees F. When the biscuits are finished baking, turn off the oven and leave them in for a while to harden.

Dog treats, cat treats are made very similar. They use the same basic ingredients that we use in baking except they add more nutrient levels and vitamins. Make your own. Try and cut down the fats (butter, creams etc) and use veg.oil (minimal) in its place. I use honey in most of my creations. You can make large batches in any shapes you want (bones, doggies etc) you can purchase these molds almost anywhere. Then freeze them and use as needed. Even if they are frozen, all that will do is slow down there eating consumption time which could be a good thing so they can enjoy it. I have 5 dogs and 6 cats. Big dogs also.

Dog Biscuits
Makes about 5 dozen
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup wheat germ
1/4 cup brewer's yeast
1 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 tablespoons canola oil
1 garlic clove, coarsely chopped
1/2 cup low-sodium canned chicken stock, plus more for brushing
1. Preheat oven to 400°. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, wheat germ, yeast, and salt; set aside
2. In a large bowl, combine oil and garlic. Add stock and flour mixture in three alternating batches, beginning and ending with stock. Mix well.
3. On a lightly floured work surface, roll out dough to about 3/8-inch thick. Cut out dog-bone shapes; transfer to parchment-lined baking sheets. Repeat with remaining dough.
4. 4. Bake biscuits 10 minutes. Brush with stock; rotate baking sheets, and bake 10 minutes more. Turn off oven, leaving door closed. Let dog biscuits stand in oven to dry completely, about 1 1/2 hours. Wrap as a gift, or store in an airtight container at room temperature.

Barnes & Noble has a great book with doggie treat recipes, less than $10.00. Most are made with different types of flour: whole wheat, rice, etc., many have dried powdered milk and eggs as ingredients. After initial investment in ingredients, relatively cheap. Book also comes with cookie cutters.
