The Army will be responsible for any troops going to Baghdad. Iraq is divided into "battle spaces" where different branches occupy regions, and within those regions different brigades or divisions have their own battle space. The Marines are mostly in the western provinces, but could possibly add to the presence in Baghdad. My best guess is that the Army will suck it up. Also, if the troops are to be on the ground by the end of the month, it will have to be a unit that has already gone through SRP and is ready to go. In other words a unit that has recently returned. If it makes you feel any better my bags are packed and are on stand by also.

Since the need is for 'boots on the ground' it should be Army and Marines. We should have been leaving 2 years ago. Let them kill one another in their civil war. Now, if we are succesful even, we will either help Sadr who is a major friend of the current leader, rise and secure his place as a religious zealot with a government much like Iran that isn't disposed to being our ally or we will get mired down even more and have thousands of casualties with the same outcome that could have been had 2 years and 2000 American deaths ago.

Bush should make a declaration to the foes.

"All marines will carry rifles dipped in swine blood. Captured enemies, dead or alive, whole or in pieces will be injected with swine blood or burnt with a whole pig"

Get shot and be sent straight to islamic hell.
