Im getting married this July. It's an outdoor wedding around 6 ish. I know it'll still be daylight. I thought I wanted a unity candle but its going to be outside and still be bright out I dont think it would make sense to me....any ideas or alternatives?

You could use two bouquets of flowers -- roses would be appropriate -- that each of your mothers brings down the aisle and places in a separate vase. Then you can combine them in a bigger vase during the ceremony. I wish you lots of luck!!! One more thing don't worry about anything. All will fall into place.

Alternatives To Unity Candles

My sister in law got married outside in the daylight and still had a unity candle. I don't know of a way that you could have an alternative. Congrats on the wedding. You could ask the person who is wedding the 2 of you and see if anyone else has ever done something other than a unity candle.

I got married outside, so we waited until the reception to light our unity candle. After everyone was introduced, the minister officiated the unity candle ceremony just like he would have if it had been part of the service. It was nice, because that way the candles got to burn throughout the reception.

Another idea is to use glass contaners full of colored sand. One color for his family, one for yours, and you pour them into a vase or something to mix them. My sister is getting married on the beach this spring, and that's what she'll be doing, most likely.

You can use the Unity candles if you put hurrricane globes around the candles. Or you could use oil candles.

Or you could do a sand ceremony

There is also a Unity bouquet, but isn't so common.
You could do a handfasting. They have them for Pagans & Christians as well. Speak with your officiant.

You don't need a unity candle. I didn't use one and I had it in a chapel. But if you feel the need to do this try those unity sand mixes. You get two different colored sands put them in different glass cylinders and at the officants prompt you begin to pour the sands together at the same time mixing together to show the two of you becoming one.

Instead of the unity candle, you can do unity sand. This where you have three containers; two with colored sand (could be the colors of your wedding) and one empty. You both pour your individual colored sand into the empty container.

This is the one that I like.I have also heard of the rose ceremony and planting a tree.

Good luck!

Like everyone has said you could do the sand idea. I did what I called a hand ceremony. Just google "Hand Ceremony" and you will find a ton of different ideas.
