Hi,
I drink about 8 cups of tea with milk a day. I want to know if this is good/bad for me?

I've heard that tea containes antioxidants, but someone told me that the protein in milk breaks those down.

I know that tea contains caffeine, but I've never suffered any side effects such as sleep deprevation.

Thanks

Tom

Black Tea relaxes the arteries.
Allegedly.
But Milk reduces that benefit from drinking Tea. Although it does provide some valuable neutrients.....

I drink tea with a dash of skimmed milk, I have no side effects and sleep very well. I believe that the goodness in tea is ruined by the fact many have unsuitable accompaniments such as biscuits and cakes, greasy fry ups etc, drink it quickly before the milk gets any chance to do any breaking down is my recommendation!

The media said yesterday that adding milk totally destroyed any benefits from tea drinking. Therefore if it aint black it aint healthy. Have heard that some tea contains more caffeine than coffee but it maybe a myth. Shame I cant do the no milk thing but I like what I like

well i always say everything in moderation...which you are not doing. But i drink milk in my tea, and the protein in milk is not going to breakdown the antioxidants your getting.

You may not be suffering from side effects, but if you were to stop your tea would you suffer from rebound headaches from the decrease in caffeine. That also depends on how long you steep your tea as too how much caffeine you are getting

Tea is great for you, but yes, a new study shows that the milk breaks down certain aspects of the benefits. Try drinking your tea without milk if you want to retain all the 'good stuff.'

I heard that a splash of milk in Tea is good because it takes out any "bad" antioxidants in the tea. Just what I heard. True or not....hmmm I am not sure.

the milk can break down the good stuff in the tea apparently but i wouldnt worry too much, however personally i reckon you're drinking quite a bit tea to be honest, though i dont know officially how much is too much
but definitely tea is meant to be good for you without the milk

black tea is best for you, yoku're right that it contains more antioxidants. However, eight cups a tea is quite high as the tannin levels aren't good for you. I'd have four cups of black tea, and the remainder being green tea or herbal infusions.

Depends on the milk, is it whole milk, 1%, 2%, skim half and half , evaporated or cream?

Whole milk, cream, half and half, evaporated all have higher fat contents so may be bad for your diet.

Also depends on the type of tea you drink. Herbal teas usually you don't add milk with nor green tea.

If you're really concerned start cutting down on your milk or go to skim or 1%.
