I noticed in one question, a guy asked whether he was still a Christian if he did not believe in the OT stories. Some answered no he is not if he rejects the word of God, some said he is as long as he accepts Jesus(pbuh) as his Savior. Kindly asking, which is it?

Abel - Both answers are correct which is confusing as all get out I know. This is an example of the wide range of beliefs of the Christian faith based on church dogma. Some Christian denominations insist the Bible is completely literal (you will see them called many things here, including creationalist and fundamenatlists ((fundies)).

Other denominations see parts of the Bible as representational or symbolic or applying to problems of the churches of the times.

This is a huge issue for Christians and has split churches apart. You will see by the replies your question gets. We do not KNOW we are right and cannot KNOW we are right, we can only believe we are right. But then basically, that is true of everyone who comes here and answers questions.

The bible says if you accept Jesus as your Savior, you will have eternal life. Jesus Himself quoted the OT often. I believe that if someone has accepted Christ as their Savior, then they should accept all of the bible and not just some. Because if you reject some of the bible, that leaves room in the future to doubt and reject all of it. But, I don't think that anyone has the right to not say someone is a Christian. Salvation is a personal thing between the individual and God, and only the individual knows what kind of relationship they have with God. It is so easy to doubt nowadays with society being the way it is, and different stories being thrown around that get people off track.

If you believe in Christ, you believe in the one who sent Him, which is the Father. That's just it you can't like some of the bible and not the other. You can't accept God and not Jesus and vice versa. Basically the OT stories were purposed to let the people know that a Messiah was coming. The first prophecy given in Genesis spoke about Christ. So all the OT stories were and indication that a man was coming who would take away the sins of the world.

To be saved and a "Christian", you simply need to ask Jesus as your savior and believe in him. Now, if you believe in part of the Bible and call it the "word of God" wouldn't you be contradicting yourself to say that part of it was wrong? Why would anyone have trouble believing the OT stories, when the Big Bang and Evolution is just as odd sounding? I hope that answers your question.

JESUS said we are not under the Law but under Grace, yet we are still to follow the law.

It's simple really, The LORD said old things are past away and have now become new.

As a Christian, our guide is the New Testament, that is what we follow.

However, GOD does not want us to forget the beginning, all that HE has done for us. Even so, we follow the Old Testament. The things we are not to follow JESUS has made clear, example The Sabbath!

being saved means you accept everything that has to do with God and Jesus that is written in his word. I cannot answer if the man is saved cause I do not know his heart. Only Jesus knows that. It is easy to call yourself a christian for many do it but the question is does Jesus know you and does everyone else see you as a christian. To deny anything that is of God and Jesus in my book is not saved.

Jesus came in the new testament as he second Adam. The laws of the OT were not discarded but Jesus brought a new covenant. If he has accepted Jesus as his saviour and Lord he is fine.

A Christian will ACCEPT the OT as from God.
The history, poetry, prophecy are all valuable.
The Law given through Moses is no longer applicable.
Christ's death put and end to it. Romans 10:4
So ......word it the way you wish.

I don't understand why you need a concrete answer. Science has different theories. Not all scientists believe what the others say, so why should all people of faiths.

There are 2.1 billion Christians in the world, not all are going to agree on the same thing. Some are probably right, some are probably wrong, but it might be almost impossible for us all to agree on anything. It's the very reason why we have denominations of our faith.

How can someone believe in Jesus if he doesn't read about him? Where can he read about him? In the Bible. You can't believe in someone you don't know anything about. "This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of you, the only true God, and of the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ." - John 17:3
And it's not enough to believe. We have to apply what the Bible says.
So, a true Christian will believe in the Hebrew Scriptures (Old testament) and in the Greek Scriptures (New Testament).

To believe in Jesus but not believe in what HE believed is a bit of a no brainer...dont you think? Jesus was a Jew first and foremost. He was brought up in the traditions of the Old Testament which has alomost 300 prophecies related to His coming. The bible that Jesus used was the old testament. In the gospels He refers to the Old Testament on numerous occassions. Jesus himself believed and followed the the stories in the old testament. For christians to not believe in the old testament they also have to not believe in Jesus. In my view you cannot have one without the other.
