I am trying to set up my desk different because it doesn't "feel" right. It's uncomfortable. Maybe I don't have the monitor and keyboard in the right positions? I don't know.

Is your keyboard right in front of your monitor or to the side? Which side is it on? Does it matter? Should I look up or down at the monitor or should it be eye level? Lighting??

My home office is basically U-shaped. One arm of the U holds my printer/scanner on the left with paper storage beneath; my monitor is in the center, with the keyboard on a slide-out shelf below it. On either side of it is my phone and a small file for the disks I use most frequently. The center of the monitor is slightly below eye level, and when I use the keyboard, my forearms and hands are almost parallel to the floor. In the corner next to this is the CPU on a lower corner area. The center of the U is under a window which gives great daylight (I frosted the lower window panes since the view is only of my neighbor's driveway). This section contains a shallow center drawer, and on the left are two more short shallow drawers and a file drawer. I also use the center area for my mouse; I have carpal tunnel syndrome and must rest my whole forearm on a surface, not just my wrist (wrist pads do NOT work for me) if I want to avoid problems. The other arm of the U is a worktable with bookshelves above it, and more file drawers below; I use the worktable for current work-in-progress, and the shelves for reference materials, manuals, etc. My office swivel chair, of course, sits in the middle of this U, and enables me to swing around to wherever I need to work. For lighting I have two wall-mounted swing-arm lamps. One is in the corner above the CPU and works for me at the computer, and the under-the-window desk; the other is at the corner of the bookshelf unit and lights up the worktable.

When starting to set up your office, start with a good comfortable chair; then position the computer, keyboard, etc. at the right heights for you when you are seated. I like having the CPU at nearly desk height, since I hate to have to bend down to insert or change disks, etc. The whole configuration is only about 5-6 feet square, though the wall with the worktable/bookshelf is slightly longer.

I have a L shaped desk and my monitor and keyboard are in the center. It is easier on my back and neck to have everything directly in front of me and at eye level. With my monitor and keyboard in the center I have plenty or work space on either side of me.

I have this one: http://www.shoplet.com/Bestar-Somerville-L-Shaped-desk-with-hutch/BER4585063/spdv

i love it!!!!
one tip your desk should be next to or close to a window and two i would recommend using a monitor raise (ex: http://www.shoplet.com/monitor%20raise/usrch ) because your monitor should be at eye level! this is not only for posture but as well as for your eyes.

my keyboard is right in front of me and if i need to write something i just move to the side ;)

hope this helped!!

I have mine at eye level centered, because I think I would get a stiff neck otherwise.
