Someone said that Joseph was 50 and Mary was about 13 when they married and that Joseph had had other wives, does anyone know where this info came from, and if this can be found in the Bible could you tell me where it says any of these things?

Jesus was the first child of Mary, she was a Virgin when she became pregnant but she was married to Joseph and after Jesus was born Mary and Joseph had a normal married life. They had children and they were Jesus siblings.

Of course Jesus had brothers, One James wrote a book in the new testament of the Bible. I don't know about Joseph having other wives but the Bible says Jesus had brothers and sisters. The brothers are named I think there were three the sisters were not named. OO

The Bible doesn't mention these details now because it has been translated, edited and modified so many times by men who want to make their version of Christianity "the one" to believe. If in the scriptures, we read that Jesus had other siblings, Jesus wouldn't seem so special or holy perhaps. So it as taken out. There used to be references to them and the details of Joseph and Mary etc, but not now. There is evidence though. There was a programme on around Christmas about it. I don't mean like the da Vinci code.

hope that helps.

Try the attached links for a start.

Remember that the bible we know is the result of a series of debates, culminating with the Council of Trent, during which it was decided which books should make up the final version (the Biblical canon).

Other books existed, some of which give supposed details of Jesus' personal life, but were not included in the canon because of inconsistencies or because they were considered heretical.

They didn't have contraception in those days so I'm sure that Mary would of had other children. Joseph would of been pretty laid back if he didn't have his rights as a husband with her. I'm sure that they would of lived a normal life after the god/Jesus thing if it really did happen.

The bit on Joseph seems dodgy to me--that's pretty old for a Jewish man to be getting married in those days, though I suppose it's possible he was a widower. Never heard that one, though.

13-14 was a pretty normal age for girls to get married at the time, so she was likely about that age.

There is a lot of speculation (How do you stop it?) The Bible does not say anything about the ages of Mary or Joseph, nor mention a previous marriage.
The best way to find out what the Bible says is to read it for yourself. (For the Christmas story...Matthew and Luke)

I understand interior the Aramaic of Jesus' time, they used the comparable word for brother as they did for cousin. additionally, interior the previous testomony a guy replaced into required to marry his brother's widow. if his brother died leaving his widow childless. somebody ask a Jewish buddy think the guy that died did not have a brother. the respond replaced into that his nearest male kinfolk member could be seen his brother. as a result the Bible does not actual coach or disprove that Mary had the different infants. I examine those days on Snopes with connection with a distinctive remember something that's amazingly authentic: "between the 1st themes we would desire to evaluate is that the Bible is 1000's of years previous, and the money owed have come to us with the aid of many oral retellings, re-copyings, printings, and translations. we would desire to be very careful approximately proposing a particular interpretation of a single English word or word from one specific version of the Bible as being "what the Bible certainly says." additionally, why did Jesus on the bypass supply his mom Mary to the Apostle John to be his mom. it may look if he had different brothers and sisters they could have regarded after Mary.

Surely Joseph would have had Mary stoned for being preggers without sleeping with her husband. Just a thought
