My two-year old son burned his hand on a curling iron. The burn area is between his thumb and index finger. The first couple of days I treated it with triple antibiotic ointment and covered it with guaze and paper tape. Do I need to keep covering it? Will it ever heal if it never has a chance to dry out and form a scab?

Burns need to breathe. Really it is best not to cover it unless it is really raw and then only with light gauze. Antibiotic ointment isn't that great for a burn either (unless the burn has burst open and is seeping) because it does not allow it to breathe. There are other burn medications to take away the sting that do not shut out the air to the burn. After it has scabbed over, then antibiotic cream will be fine to use. Best medication for a burn is air though.... I wouldn't keep covering it unless it is necessary.

Its suitable to leave it uncovered. you should use chilly water or ice to help with the discomfort and blistering. Burns are literally not counseled for masking on account that they heal more effective useful even as left uncovered and sparkling.

if theres open tissue exposed go to dry dressings that are air permeable. If not ,just open to air.
