I am 24 and have had a rapid heartbeat since i was in highschool. It happens when i wake up in the morning, when i sit up in the bed it beats so fast and i end up breathing so hard it feels like i'm hyperventilating and when i get up and out of bed i have to crawl because my heart feels like its about to explode and i can't catch my breath. It also beats fast after i eat but not nearly as bad. I have had the halter monitor and ekg all came back normal. I'm on medicine to slow it down and just had the dosage go up from 25 to 50 because it stopped working and its still not completely helping. No one knows whats wrong. HELP!!!

I too have been dealing with rapid heartbeats and get the same symptoms as you. Usually I get extreamly tired after it happens. I have been to my doctor who had me go through all of the tests...the halter monitor, ultra sound of my heart and I wore a monitor for almost a month but they dont seem to have any info that has helped. I even asked if smoking, drinking or eating patterns could have anything to do with it but she said no. She gave me meds to take to slow my heart down on a regular basis which I have not taken b/c it only happens sometimes. The episodes usually happen in the middle of the day. They had pretty much gone away for almost two months so I didnt follow up on it however they are becoming more frequent again.

How many doctors have you been to? Someone out there knows what's going on. It sounds like you're not getting the treatment you really need. Call your health insurance company, tell them your problem, and find out how many doctors you can visit within a years time without being dropped. Start going to new doctors. I had a high heart rate for a while and my doctor told me that if it's just beating faster and not skipping beats then I'm probably fine. My went away because I found out it was the caffeine in my new brand of coffee. But, if it's effecting your daily routine, you need to get to the bottom of this. Good luck to you!

Have you seen a cardiologist (heart specialist)? I would go that route. Look in your Yellow Pages under "Physicians". They are your best source for help.
