It all depends what it is you're looking for?
Are you an art lover, than France and Italy should be on top of your list.
If you are more into visiting castles and a well preserved history than I think England would be my choice.
If you like nature, then New Zealand is THE place to go. Not a lot of places that can beat the purity and the relatively safe and easy access.
Sunny, hot and nice beaches in a private atmosphere? FUJI islands!
Shopping? New York! Anything you want, they probably have it there. My wife will totally agree with that!
But I know of a lot of people who don't even know their own area.
Every country has beauty, history and qualities. You might take for granted of what lies around the corner you live and you never knew it was there or saw the beauty of it.
I used to travel all around the world for my job, I have been in 34 Countries and sometimes I had the chance to sniff up some local culture and admire the landscapes. Every local I managed to speak with, had his story and adventures. But I was always glad to be back at the place I could call home.

As you can see by the answers everyone suggests foreign countries, If you live in the US. I recommend visiting the United States because even if you live here, there is so much beautiful country to see here in our own backyard that you won't regret it a bit.
There are alot of different cultures in our country, French in Louisiana, Latin in the southwest, and every kind of climate you can imagine. In Washington State there are Rainforest's on the Olympic peninsula, to mountainous regions like the Rockies and cascades. Volcano's in Washington, Alaska, and Hawaii.
I could go on and on, but another reason is safety concerns, and no passport is required.

Australia...it's an amazing country. It has so much to offer. You can go to the best natural wonder of the world: The great Barrier Reef (I've been there twice..it's magic..so beautiful) off the Cairns coast in Queensland, You could go trekking in Tasmania, you could go to Uluru (ayers rock) in central australia near Alice Springs, go to the zoos around australia (they are world class..really nice) go shopping in melbourne or sydney (and the other cities such as Brisbane and Perth). Go to a movie. Go to the Botanical gardens. Visit Canberra and see Parliament House etc. Go to the national museum. The list is endless. Drive across Australia. Go to the wine regions in Australia..world class wine...I would recommend down south of Perth..Margaret River in Westrn Australia or the Barossa Valley in South Australia.

Vietnam is amazing! Lovely people and fab scenery. Japan is my favourite country though. Terrific blend of tradition and modern life. You will never visit a place like it. I lived and worked there for a year and have been trying to go back ever since!

Well, you have to choose one to start with, but we haven't found a place yet that we didn't like. There are so many great little corners of the world that they can't be listed. It all depends on what you feel like doing at the point in your life that you'll be taking that vacation. It's fun to read about a place that gets your imagination fired up, then dream about it and make plans, then finally get there. Vacations and travel are fun and relaxing and exciting and a great education all rolled into one. Here are our thoughts on how to plan one: http://www.mousetourstravels.com/custom-tour.html and http://www.mousetourstravels.com/custom-tour-planning-list.html
Happy travels--even if you don't travel the world... just remember that life is a journey... embrace and enjoy it!!

New Zealand is a great place but for an experiance you will never forget try Japan. Only 100 yards off the tourist track and you will see and experiance things undreamed of. No one speaks English there, all signs are in Japanese and you are either entranced or frightened out of your mind.
