I'm about to open a Chocolate Cafe, selling cakes, waffles, chocolate shots, hot chocolates, chocolate frappe's etc etc, but would like to know if any of you think this is something you'd visit on a regular basis if opened in your town? If you had a busy day shopping, would you go for a bit of a hot chocolate and dessert fix or grab a panini and latte in starbucks?

I think by basing your company entirely on chocolate is a great gimic - iniatly, but once people have been in i'm not sure lots will come back, novelity ideas wear off very quickly, I also think that you need to offer the 'healthier' or seemingly healthier options to keep in the loop because people like a treat without feeling the guilt (if i told my friend i'd been to you're cafe i think about the 5/6 times they'd be calling me a greedycow! lol)
Chocolate is also seen as quite a girly vice so maybe it would narrow your market a little.
So use the all things chocolate as a unique selling point to begin with but also have a few other options.

Perhaps you can put coffee and paninis go on the back page of your menu to broaden your market.

I do think it's a great idea and i wish you luck, you'll adapt your company for what is right for you and it will be all great. Good luck and enjoy you must be so excited.

Panini - definitely ! I dont have a sweet tooth and would never go for chocolate or cake if I was out shopping. I'd get a coffee and perhaps a bowl of soup or a panini.

sounds good. I always try different places when I'm out. If you were in my area I would visit. I think a lot of people want something a little bit different and your cafe sounds like it is. (well where i come from anyway)

Bottom line i spose is the location, marketing and the quality of your food & drink.
Just listen to the public. Get some questionnaires in there and apapt to what the public have to say.
I wish you the very best of luck and hope your bisiness takes off.

Man alive - what a delimna !!

I live for chocolate (and chillies) but if it's daytime it's got to be something savoury for me. I think I'd advise somewhere in the middle to play safe. I'd visit but not often and repeat business is what you're after I reckon
