probably won't catch much, and most public piers don't require fishing licenses. So, you'll have a good day in the sun and a great day if you catch something.

if you are fishing in salt water remember everything has teeth if in fresh try a tube jig for some bass i know in lake erie the small mouth love the piers

Make sure your rod/reel/line set up is stong enough to bring the fish over the rail. You don't want to have your rod or line snap, while you are trying to land a fish.

you should know what kind of bait they are biting on.You can find this out by asking other fisherman what they are having luck with.You may also want to find out how much weight they are using.If you aren't using enough weight ,your bait will not sink to the strike zone.Also ask them what time of day they bite the best(usually in the sunrise and sunset)they are most active.good luck and catch a big one.
