The answer is quite simply yes!
It's all made up and so is the film I'm afraid.
As great as the film is and it was Van Dammes finest hour it's still made up. In fact the only really thing in the movie is that there is a man called Dux in it and that's about it.
Do some searches on the Internet about the guy and there's plenty of stuff about his past.
Yes Ultimate fighting underground tournaments do exist but there is no evidence that suggests that the film is real. You have to just read the end titles that say he made his own style of ninjutsu called Dux ryu. I really don't think that if you made your own style up after training for so many years you would be so vain to name it after yourself! Its very disrespectful
It's just a great film. Sorry to disappoint
If its that style of fighting i think Van Damme studied Shoto Kan Karate. And if its real ninjutsu your after then check out Bujinkan (Dr Hatsumi), Genbukan (Tanemura) or Jinenkan (Manaka)

Yess he is a fake!
The Tanaka Ryu line of Ninjitsu never seem to have existed. Koga Yamabushi is what Frank Dux had on his white gi the emblem the "dogi"
How beautyfull the name Koga Yamabushi Ryu Ninjutsu sounds that is not a legit Japanese martial art either and only leads back to Frank Dux. Frank Dux claimed to have the title "ninja" an achievement that was happening under the eyes of the Koga Yamabushi Ninja masters in a place called : Masuda Japan. Also this is not proven.
The I F A A is made up by Frank Dux, the black dragon society is runned by ashida kim at the moment
The whole Kumite is made up by Frank Dux and he bought his own trophy
Dux Ryu Ninjitsu its curriculum consists of karate punches, contra moves to the hip. Karate blocks and more. On the mainland Japan the samurai jujutsu did not have those types of punches.
Dux Ryu Ninjitsu = Karate

Mr . Dux seems to have invented a lot of things . These would include but are not limited to : his shidoshi Tanaka , the bloodsport fights , his world records , his involvement in various military and police operations , the list goes on and on ...
The only thing I know that is true about him is that he does understand fight dynamics , and has some decent defensive and offensive techniques . However they are just adaptations of other techniques .

Not really, I saw clippings from his military service, not available for public record, and that stuff took place 37 years ago. They don't even have his correct birthday listed. Yes, Virginia there is a Santa Claus. I figured you could research someone else for a change. I saw his karate trophies, met his family. Heard there stories about him. You don't know jack about Frank Dux.

Yes, Dux is a fraud....he's just another faker alongside all the other "black dragon fighting society" cronies (Dante, Ashida Kim a.k.a. Christopher Hunter, Haha Lung, etc). Anything involving "koga ryu", "dux ryu" etc....it's all a bunch of crap.
Everything about his miltarial record is bull, as is his involvement with karate inspired ninjutsu (and the fake Shihan who taught him), as is his kumite experiences that were created for hollywood.
All b.s., every single shred.

A total Van Dam fraud. His military record does not show any link with Solviet special forces like he claims. An American military man with Spetnazs, please. Cool movie though.

FYI to anyone talking about Van Dam and his "martial arts" training... it was ballet and dance... he never took a martial art... I have read that his belt is "honorary" He is a gymnist.
