The odds of crashing are very slim, but I know that doesn't help you much. When I was younger than you I use to fly all the time and sometimes I would get nervous. I would suggest having a couple of things to do. Read a book or magazines, MP3/CD player, Portable DVD recorder. Any of those would be acceptable on a plane. A laptop computer would work also if you are able to.

To be quite honest, the time that you are going to be most nervous is during take off and landing and those really only last a short time. If you have someone sitting next to you that you know or can talk to that can often take your mind off of what is going on.

I use to live in Europe and traveled allot by plane and now travel for work. In all that time I have not had even one time that I was in real danger.

Another thought might be to check with the Airline and see if you can get a tour of the plane and talk to a pilot before hand. Once you speak to them and they show you everything I'm sure you will be just fine.

Good luck

Joe

have you flown before? maybe flying once will totally rid you of your phobia.

im also 15 and have flown 12 times in my life, not counting hour-long flights. i mean intercontinental, crossing the atlantic. seven hours in a plane... i loved it each time. in fact, when i stopped flying, i missed it. the busy airports with lots of people from around the world, the feeling of freedom... i never slept on planes but read, watched movies or looked out the window. i wrote in a journal a couple of times too. today if i flew i guess i would listen to music too if mp3players are allowed.

and also, flying to see friends would be much more of a bonus for me.

dont be scaredof going by yourself. getting to your plane from the airport entrance is the scariest part, but someone can drop you off and pick you up right?

and it is true, car accidents are much more common. in a lifetime of both flying and being in cars, i have been much closer to accidents in cars. besides, a plane is in the air. the air is really more safe than a street.

so come on girl, go on and visit your friends! you say you really want to... it'll be an adventure. i would sooo love to have an opportunity like that ; ) good luck!!!

Think of the trip as an adventure. Flying is really very safe. The airline will take care of you to make sure you get where you are going. Not knowing what airline you will fly or if it will have a movie you may want to take a CD player, ipod... something to listen to and a good book to read. With something to pass the time the flight will be over before you know it. There is really nothing to be frightened of.

I am in the exact same situation! I HATE flying, and in April, Im going to be flying to virginia to stay with my cousins. It is def worth being scared, the only way to get over your fear, is to face it. When ur on the plane, u can listen to music, or read a book or magazine or something. I hope I helped a little! email me sometime at luvsmonkeys15@yahoo.com if u ever need ne thing else!

Remember...odds are much greater you'll be in a car accident than a plane crash (I've already had 3 major car accidents). It'll be worth it to see your friends. The flight itself should only be about 2 hours so that won't be bad at all. Just take along something to keep your mind off it. I take my ipod and magazines/books to read and some snacks.

Inform the gate personel and the flight attendes that you is afraid of flying. They could help you alot. Get a book about afraid of flying. Some of them has a lot of info about what will happend. If you can attend a afraid of flying course that some of the airliners has. Its helpfull. Whatewer you do dont drink a lot of alcohol before the flight. It will not help you a bit and youre be in more danger if there is an accident.

But: Flying is the safest mean of transportation. Have fun! Johan

You can do it but you will be travelling as a UM - unaccompanied minor. This means that your aunt will ensure that you meet up with a flight attendant who will look after you at the airport and on the plane (or maybe a different one will - but you will never be without an adult looking after you.) At the destination airport, the attendant will make sure that the right adult picks you up at the airport - your parent or guardian - and will check their ID to make sure it's ok for them to get you. Airlines are quite familiar with this - it happens often. You will be fine. Enjoy the trip!

i had to fly from va to ca last year to see all my friends. believe me, stopping in atlanta georgia was the worst of the whole thing. i slept the whore time on the planes (i had to switch plandes). but if you cant do that, you can buy the headphones and watch the movie, read, bring your ipod and listen to music, read a book..basically anything you want. but it IS worth seeing your friends!

This should give you some comfort, you are more chances of being hit by a car when walking on a sidewalk than being involved in an airplane crash. Breathe, breathe, breathe........................................
