Hi, ask your vet as it varies even within the breed, or try to find a GSD society website. Generally if you can feel the ribs then the dog is not overwieght, but you shouldn't be able to feel the pelvic bones or the spine clearly - if you are worried about your dogs weight then you should go to your vets.

The weight of you shepherd will depend on the weight of her parents and bloodline. At 6 months of age the average shepherd should weigh in at about 40-50 lbs, again depending on the breeding history. If you have a pedigree you can look up the parents and grandparents and find out there weight. It will not tell you on the pedigree, but it will give you an ancestral line to start your search. Faster route, call the breeder and ask about the patents weight. Food and exercise can also play a part in the flux of her weight as she is still a puppy.

The size of the parents has alot to do with what she should weigh.the quality of food and amount also has something to do with her weight now as well as her health.
If you want to know what she'll weigh as an adult then take her weight at 4 months multiply by 2 and add 20% for an average.
Note I said average.
I have one who as an adult should weigh between 92 and 100 pounds but only weighs 78.He's always been on good quality food and has never had a parasite or other health issue.Food is available at all times. He just runs it off.

My GSD pup who is now 9 months old weighed about 28kgs when she was 6 months old, that's 4stone old money or 63lbs. She wasn't overweight.
I would like to add that it does depend on the breeding, my pup is out of a long line of dogs used for agility and not from show bloodlines which tend to be lighter, so speak to the breeder.

If she's heavy then she's around the 90lbs scale if she's light then she might be 50-60lbs. I have a German Shepherd female at 2 or 3 yrs.

Have you registered with a local vets..the practise I use is a small family run set up and they hold free puppy session so you can check any concerns and they only charge you for any treatment received not the service.(its a great vets!!)Try finding a good small practise as apposed to a chain where money is the leading factor in the animals care .Get her checked to put your mind at ease and they should also provide you with advice on feeding.

What are the bloodlines of this puppy? It is hard to say unless we know this. Is she from a fast maturing line or slow maturing line? Is she fat right now or lean?
