if your cleaning is consuming your life then it is serious and you need to be on meds.

I can relate so well to what you're talking about! I also have a great relationship with the vacuum cleaner (I vacuum at least 3 times daily), I wipe off the counter even when it's visibly clean, and I clean the toilets daily! Even so, I still feel as if "germs" are taking me over!! I take Prozac for depression and they claim it is supposed to also help with OCD, but so far, it hasn't! I have just accepted it as part of who I am and I remind myself that it is a medical disorder and something I have little control over! But on a bright note.....I guarantee you I have the cleanest home in the neighborhood!! LOL! But seriously, I have not found that medication helps with it at all (at least not Prozac).

Obsessive-compulsive disorder is characterized by anxiety-provoking ideas, images, or impulses (obsessions) and by urges (compulsions) to do something that will lessen that anxiety. The cause is unknown. Diagnosis is based on history. Treatment consists of psychotherapy, drug therapy, or, in severe cases, both.
Please see the web pages for more details on Obsessive compulsive disorder.

Green said it all. Get a second opinion on the meds. See another Doctor.

go out or have your family or friends to come over and play a game or cook...something that will make you forget about cleaning

Do not start taking medications because you might can't get off...
