I'm getting a tat w/o parental permission. So, obviously, I'll need to hide it. I'm getting ti between my shoulder blades, which is supposed to be very sensitive--all bone, little tissue, etc.
What sort of precautions should I be ready for? (Like, if it'll be so painful I won't be able to act like it's not there as it heals, etc.)
And, from those who have gotten one, just about how painful it is as you're getting it.
YES, I HAVE TAKEN HEALTH PRECAUTIONS. I know this person uses sterlie stuff, and opens it in front of you. So don't worry about posting that, because I've already made sure about it.

I have 4 tattoos and each one hurt but different I have one on my breast which was the least painful a big one on my lower back PAINFUL one on my ankle and one on my foot my foot is the smallest tattoo I have and was the most painful I don't have one in between my shoulder blades but I would imagine it will hurt alot all tattoos are painful they are taking needles and ripping your skin and inserting ink into your body hello painful! good luck and you should be ok hideing it take lots of advil or tylenol for the pain and becareful what kind of shirts you wear that none go low in the back and show it I have never hidden any of my tattoos but my friend did and it only stayed hidden for a few months before her mom saw it hers is on the back of her neck and she forgot her hair was up and mom came down stairs behind her oops! lol while it heels it scabs and gets VERY itchy keep moistureizing it helps with the itch good luck
another thing to keep in mind I got 2 of my tattoos done when I was 15 and 16 and my parents had to sign for me I got my other 2 when I was 18 and my parents still gave me their thumbs up not that I needed it but I wanted it.. and I love my tattoos the artist did an awesome job and I have had alot of compliments on the quality of my tattoos my friend went to a different tattoo shop that let her get it done without parent permission and I think her tattoos look sloppy I know other people who have gone to that shop and their tattoos also don't look that great I agree with the people saying that if they are willing to tattoo you illegally I wouldnt trust them to do as a good a job as a more reputable places who follows the law this is something that is on your body FOREVER you should want the best of the best!

It doesn't matter if you know the person uses sterile stuff and opens it in front of you. If you are under 18 and getting it without parental permission then the person if not a reputable tattoo artist. If something happens your parents could sue them because you are underage.
How do you plan on cleaning it? My SIL got a tattoo between her shoulder blades and she had to have her family help her clean it because she couldn't reach there. I'm assuming that you don't plan on going swimming or to any school dances until you are 18, because it will show.
Also the tattoo you are planning to get may not be something you want say in 5 years, what are you going to do then?

I think that you should think about it.
I have a tattoo on my back and I regret it because I was too young.
My mom knows every piercing and tattoo I have but my dad has no idea. I hide my tattoo and push up my septum when I'm around him. It's not really a good feeling =[
but I definately think you should think about it before you get it because it will be there forever.
That part of your back is pretty sensitive. The thinner the skin is the more it hurts. Mine didn't hurt very bad but I have a high tolerance for pain, so it's different on everybody.

You're supposed to wash it frequently to prevent infection. My husband had to wash his 7 or 8 times a day for the first few days. If you get one in a hard to reach area you may have trouble taking care of it yourself.
You need to be careful that your tattoist doesn't pour the used ink back into the bottles. Maybe you should buy an unopened bottle of ink for him to use. The reason for this is that during the tattooing process blood mixes with the ink. If the ink is dumped back into the bottle, then you're basically sharing a needle with every other person who's been tattooed from that bottle.
Speaking as a mom, if you have any problems with your tattoo...infection, severe pain (which could indicate infection even if you couldn't tell), you start running a fever, anything out of the ordinary, tell your parents. Don't try to wait it out and see if you feel better. As mad as they're going to be, they'd rather have a live, tattooed child than one who dies of a blood infection or something like that.

First of all you need to consider where you are getting it - you are young and don't realize that when you get older how it might effect what you portray yourself to be. If you get it between your shoulder blades don't plan on wearing a spaghetti strapped dress or a wedding dress without looking like trash. Get is somewhere you can conceal it like your hip or lower back.
I have lots of tats and they are painful but its not a pain you can't endure the hardest part is the outline... it's really not that bad.
The healing ... you have to take care of it and keep it clean by gently washing it and keep antibiotic ointment on it until it is fully healed - it will scab some but DO NOT pick the scabs off you will ruin your tat just keep it moist with the ointment it will come off when it is ready. Also do not go swimming in a pool or the ocean until it is healed and keep it out of the sun.
Make sure that you pick a tat that means something to you not just to get one to have one ... it will be on you forever!
Good Luck

Hiding tattoos for the sake of not getting in trouble or whatever is a dumb idea. The people in your life should be able to accept you getting a tattoo and if this is a matter of you being underage, shame on you and the tattoo artist.
I promise your parents will find out, they aren't as dumb as you think they are....
(I'm all for body mods and self expression, but I've been there and done that...hiding doesn't work and lying about it won't make it any better. Prepare for a rocky relationship with your parents)

if you are going to a tattoo artist that will forego "parental consent" if you are underage, you haven't taken all precautions......I would be cautious of a tattoo artist that is willing to do that because it's illegal. Also - if you're under 18....what would be wrong with waiting until you're 18? If you really want the tattoo...you'll still want it at 18.

Most state legislation require you to be over 18 to be pierced with out a dad and mom permission. Usually beneath 18 one mum or dad need to be gift for the period of the time of the piercing to signal the consent type. Any location that allows you to do it for you beneath the authorized age restrict is beautiful shady and I could no longer propose getting pierced via them.

If you're underage and getting a tattoo w/o parental permission then the artist is not legit. Tattoo artists are not allowed to tattoo underage clients w/o permission from the parents. I'd wait until you're 18.
