No was my son's first word. He's 19 month's old.He speaks quite a few words, mummy and daddy is still not one of them although he knows who mummy and daddy are. It really depends on what words a child hears very often. If they have siblings who say mummy and daddy quite often, then I suppose it's easier for a child's first word to be one of these.

One of my nephews' was baba and the other door! so it just depends i suppose. Usually when its mammy or daddy then daddy is said first as its easier to say, children practice words in there head before attempting to speak, this is how they can understand what you are saying to them but dont talk themselves.

Not its not always momma daddy. Mine was doggie, then dadda, then momma. I think it has to do with what you say around a child. I was always around animals, so I would always point to our dogs and whoever was there would go doggie. Which is why I picked that word up first. Everyone is different thoough.

Depends really on what your teaching you child to say, repeating the same thing over and over is mainly mammy or daddy so they tend to be a first word

With both of mine it was dada, I think it's just easier to say though, because in both cases dada wasn't even around and they barely even heard the word!!
