I go there on occasion and interpret dreams with others as well as my dear friend, Varzandeh....
I, personally, do not like dream dictionaries as they are not specific to the reason why dreams are as they appear to be...... Dream dictionaries are "generalized terms.....
For example.... if one were to dream of ice.... would it be the same meaning for someone in Africa as it is to someone in Alaska?..... Or someone in Maine or in California.....?
What if that ice had something to do with the wind, or it had to do with someone's feet?.......
It would never be the same......
The "story" is the true thing to go to understand in the dream....
The dream is a page of your life's story... and like a fingerprint, it is unique only to you........ No two people have exact identical dreams because of life's experience... everyone has their own view of life and so like a fingerprint, no one can grasp your understanding like yourself.......
Butterflies are those creatures which cause us to feel a certain way.... usually about someone else.... but the dream will tell us why it is present....
It wouldn't hold the same significance for someone who hates them or may have fear of them because they're insects.... the dream tells why.......
I know you were only using that as an example...... But, I hope that helps...... Your dreams are significant to you..... not anyone else.. and I have found dream dictionaries to be, rather, lacking in that regard....

Well..
There *are* dream dictionaries, and most of the time they're fairly accurate. However, you need to keep in mind that something may have a different symbolism to *you*. For example, a butterfly in general terms could indicate anything from joy to fleeting happiness to resurrection. But for someone who studies butterflies, or associates a certain person or event with them, or for whatever reason doesn't like them, it would likely symbolize something very different.
Your best tactic: Write down your dream. Go through and underline all the words, symbols, numbers, and adjectives you wrote down. See what they mean to you first. If nothing comes up, then hit a dream dictionary.

I never trust those things. I had a dream that I was playing with my cat and the results turned up that I'm going to be deceived in the near future...
You'd have better luck interpreting your own dreams
