You know what... NO, do not "pick up" bartending!
I'm sick of people like you, who think bartending is just this fun thing to do, to pick some up some extra cash and get hit on by guys.
There are actual REAL bartenders who take their craft VERY seriously and put alot of effort into a day. Doing things like perfecting and creating recipes, learning numerous brewing techniques, alcohol distilling & wine-making processes. Trying to better themselves into becoming master brewers or sommeliers. And then little snot-nosed punks (with absolutely NO personality) come along and just think it's so glam to because some movie or TV show made it look "cool."
If you want to make some fast money go be a server in a diner or a Fridays. There you won't have to learn about cheesemaking and the numerous types of oysters in the world.

It 's extra approximately character. Bar tending is not rough however can get very quick paced. I'm a male and Bar tending for six years after which bounced whilst jogging and dealing with an overly significant bar and it might probably get loopy now and then. The bar I ran was once out within the core of no wherein however nearly a ski hotel (approximately 18 miles) and would do a $one million, six hundred.00 night time in income at the weekend. My consumers had been part Rednecks and part Lumberjacks( I'm each) so I was once very busy Bouncing all my peers that had been simply having a laugh. Although bar tending at present isn't just like the historic occasions, I replied for your query for one motive, when you come to be a bartender and I'm certain you can be well at it when you've got the character and vigor, there 3 regulations you ought to recognise. It's the 3 regulations I could coach my bartenders once they got here on board and it is going like this... (one million) do not whistle at me, I'm no longer a puppy (two) banging your beer can at the bar will best get you tossed out and (three) ASK!! if you do not know how one can make a drink, ask the buyer what is in it? if they do not know...they do not ought to drink it! possibilities are, they are simply messing with then you definitely you'll use my quote..." I'm as great as you allow me be" dhwilson58. have a laugh, make tons of hints and well success to you. oh yea....there may be plenty cash to be made Bar tending.

Be ready to remember 10 things at all times, count correct change, ID people, keep tabs straight, wait on servers as well, and if you don't have a barback you better get all those glasses washed, constantly clean the bar top, open wine bottles, refill mixers as you go, deal with many personality types, and on and on and on. Oh, don't forget to smile during all this.
And the other thing you have to do like carrying cases and cases of beer to stock, changing a keg when your slammed, stay after closing for an hour or more just cleaning, then going home smelling like a brewery.
We're not even going to address a rowdy, or angry patron. But, can you cut someone off who's been over served.
If you can get past all the above then you will make a pretty good bartender.

Not that hard. Buy a bartending book, make index cards of the most called drinks ordered and put them in a recipe box alphabetical. Practice those.
Keep the book on hand or just ask the customer how they like it made.
Try to start out at a place that sells mostly beer and shots and for Gawd sakes avoid the places that sell those blended drinks.
The hardest part is learning the prices (set by the Bar)
Good luck, have fun and shine.

Bartending looks easy but really isn't. I'm not saying it's a hard job. In fact I love it. It's a big job filled with lots of little fine detail jobs. You have to know over two hundred drinks off the top of your head to start and keep learning as you go on, which glass for which, which garnish(es), product knowledge, you are responsible for inventory going out to the ounce and money coming in to the dime, and if any of it doesn't add up correctly, you pay for it out of your own pocket, you have to be able to multi-task as you'll always have at least five people asking for different drinks, and cleanliness is a huge must. Allot to do for $6.75 an hour isn't it? I won't discourage you either. It's a great job that I Iove very much. Just know what you're getting yourself into.
Good luck, Cheers.

Bartending isn't easy when you're just starting out. It takes a lot of practice to pace yourself, work in an organized manner, remember recipes, keep your bar clean and well stocked - notice this hasn't even mentioned customers yet...
However, with practice, bartending can be an immensely enjoyable job. You can really enjoy interacting with your co-workers and the customers.
Just remember that there's alot more than meets the eye when you see a really great bartender making their job "look" easy. I won't discourage you, but go into this situation with open eyes. Also, most places prefer some experience and may hire you first as a server until you know the business a little better.

The hardest thing about bartending is getting the job. Good luck since you have no training. 95% of the places you try at will want you to be a server first (or a bus girl) and the other 5% are so bad to work at you really shouldn't bother.

I don't know of to many places that you can just walk into and get a job bartending (with the exception of a few low class joints) . You might want to think of going to a nice 4 star hotel and applying for a bar back position that way you can still earn decent money while learning. Also, try banquet bartender it is way more basic and easy to learn the odds n' ends of bartending .Plus good $$$$

I think you should be able to do just fine. If you don't know the drink, believe me, the drinker will tell you what and how to make it. Good luck, and have fun at it.

Wear tight fitting clothes, or maybe ONLY a fishnet, and get good tips, no matter what you make.
