Gnostics and atheist don't know. But it is amazing. Even people who reject God give answers that God has revealed through the scriptures.
But I or anyone could give you an opinion, and in the end that is what it will remain, an opinion. As a protestant Christian I believe that the answer to this question has already been given in the Holy Bible. The first thing we must define is the soul or what is life. What is the soul? The Soul is a living person. This is what it means to be alive. Biblically a soul is made up of two things. Remember when God made Adam? Dust (from the ground) + Breath (from God). Therefore Dust + Breath = Living Soul
Gen 2:7 "And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul"
Again, biblically a soul is just a person Acts 27:37 "we were in all in the ship two hundred threescore and sixteen souls" Also (Acts 7:14, Ex 1:1-5)
Therefore, a soul cannot exist BY ITSELF. You must have two things: A body + the breath of God. If you just have breath there is no soul. And if you just have a body there is no soul. Notice James 2:26 "the body without the spirit is dead" (spirit in the margin means breath)
In conclusion, to answer the question what happens when you die. The answer is you don't go to heaven and you don't go to hell. When someone dies the process is reversed. The breath goes back to God who gave it, and the body goes back to the ground where it was taken from. Biblically speaking Ecc 12:7 "Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it." And that body will remain in the ground until Jesus returns the second time, but that is another topic. That is the answer anything outside of the Bible answer is spectulation, human reasoning, and philosophy. There is much more that I have left out. If you would like to know more or have questions just contact me!

We believe the body dies and thats an end to it.
Since we do not believe there is a god or supernatural being watching over us then by default we don't believe we have a soul to save or a place to be re-incarnated to.
We think (i do anyway) that we are just another creature of this planet that has served it's useful purpose and reached the end of its life.
not a lot more i can say, hope this helps you to understand, not everyone needs the belief in the afterlife to be happy healthy and satisfied on this earth.
have a great 2007 and make the most of it, because life is not a rehearsal, its all we get.

Accept it! When you die, it's the end! Finito! There are no fluffy white clouds and harps waiting for you. Heaven and eternal peace with some god are lovely thoughts, but unfortunately that's all they are. Fantasies! Like the seven virgins waiting for martyrs who die in the act of killing a bunch of innocent people! Wonderful thought, but it's all wishful thinking. By the way, has anyone wondered what the seven virgins did to warrant such a fate!

I don't know..I'll find out when I die. But I think and hope that when I die, that's the end of it...done..nothing more. I will decompose and feed the ground.
I think it is rather arrogant to believe their is a god, who even slightly cares about us and will have a heaven waiting for us....what makes us so special that we would deserve that. Believers can be so full of themselves.

Since I am a Buddhist, I believe in samsara and I will be born into a new life after death unless I reach enlightenment. In that case, I will not be born again, but escape existance and go back to nothing.

To answer your question. Agnostics are not sure about GOD. They don't know. I am not agnostic but I thought you might want to address this to the Aetheist Group. Have a great day!

Dam.m thats a great question. Wish I had of thought of it.
unfortunatly I am not agnostic, I am atheist and therefore have no idea what happens after I die like agnostics, but KNOW it is not going to be anything like what any religions say it is,unlike the agnostics who claim no body can know these things.
I like the answer my son gave me today.
I said to him "Some people believe when you die, God will burn bad people for ever and ever and ever and ever. What do you think of that"
He said "God cant, I will already be dead"

It is too bad that people are blind of the truth. Since man is in the image of God, we have an idea of some things. Why does a parent discipline a child? Because of love. This teaches accountability. So with this in mind, God will hold us accountable. Not believing is an easy out, until it happens. And it can't be argued that they didn't know, because they have seen the answers here on Y! Agnostics means they do not know if there is or isn't a God. The root of the word from its Greek or Latin (I think) origin means no knowledge. Atheists believe there is no God.

Nothing. You die. That's it.
If believing in heaven makes the inevitability of death easier for you to deal with, believe whatever you want. I prefer to accept reality.
