For those Christians that have studied the Bible what do you think it means -- that no flesh would be saved, what would possibly destroy all flesh if He did not shorten the days in your opinion. In additon who do you think the "elect" are that he says he is shortening time for and in your opinion where would this happen in the tribulation and rapture timeline?

Matthew 24:22
And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened.

Read it in context and you will see it is talking about the people in Judea

The elect are the Jewish believers is a possible answer. The Jews in Judea is another option.

Matthew 22:15 “The day is coming when you will see what Daniel the prophet spoke about—the sacrilegious object that causes desecration[d] standing in the Holy Place.” (Reader, pay attention!) 16 “Then those in Judea must flee to the hills. 17 A person out on the deck of a roof must not go down into the house to pack. 18 A person out in the field must not return even to get a coat. 19 How terrible it will be for pregnant women and for nursing mothers in those days. 20 And pray that your flight will not be in winter or on the Sabbath. 21 For there will be greater anguish than at any time since the world began. And it will never be so great again. 22 In fact, unless that time of calamity is shortened, not a single person will survive. But it will be shortened for the sake of God’s chosen ones.

The time will not be shortened from the pre planned 7 Year Period. The 7 Year period was the "SHORTENED PLAN". It means if Jesus did not intervene, Satan would use the Anti-Christ to destroy the human race, and since God has swore to Abraham to always keep a Remnant of Israel, he can;t allow that to happen. The Church is in Heaven while this is happening.

I find this translation easier to read and understand...

Matthew 24:21-22 (The Message) "This is going to be trouble on a scale beyond what the world has ever seen, or will see again. If these days of trouble were left to run their course, nobody would make it. But on account of God's chosen people, the trouble will be cut short.

You may find it useful to pray to God for guidence and wisdom and then read the whole passage Matthew 24:15-22 or even Matthew 24:1-22

There will come a time just before Jesus' return where men's heart will be constantly evil and only destruction and hate will be what they crave. The saints will be persecuted and killed during this time and if these days were not shortened they would kill all the saints of God and eventually destroy themselves. The reality of sin is that it leads us to destroy our environment, ultimately ourselves and others.

If the "free will" issue can be set aside for a moment, the concept of an Elect is a pretty easy thing to grasp. Christians are God's own from eternity to eternity, foreknown, predestined, regenerated, given faith, sanctified, and glorified.

Come to Jesus, and he will provide you sabbath, the artwork and toil of this earth passes, Jesus created a clean existence, a clean gown of righteousness, all we are to do is relax in it with him! This on my own is the real sabbath. "on the instant" in case you hear His voice, enter into it!

What it means is that Satan will have enough influence to deceive everyone on earth unless Christ intervenes. Go back and re-read the verses above and below that verse to get the meaning. It will explain itself to you IF you leave out the traditions of man and what he says about it. USE the Word of God to get your answer.

I believe this is speaking about the tribulation. There will be many things happening. One is the sun will be hot. It could have to do with this. If the days weren't shorter, then it might get too hot for people to live.

the passage refers to the"end times" when, unless Jesus returns, mankind will destroy themselves and the entire planet Earth.....
most likely with atomic weapons.
God will "shorten those days".....meaning He will cut them short and send Jesus to save Earth and it's inhabitants.
Jesus will then set up His Kingdom here on Earth and reign for 1,000 years.
