The Viral producers want to get thier latest "bugs" out to as many people as possible, ergo, they will package thier wares in seemingly innocuous programs and files in order to make sure they are distributed to as many people as possible, the only defense, a good set of Anti-Virus and security software that can use advanced huristics to detect malicious content and remove it.

What you need to do is check the file size before you download. There are lots of viruses named after files you would like to download. Make sure that the file size is reasonable to the file type you are trying to download. Then after the download is complete, scan with an antivirus program to be safe.

If you do, use a decent antivirus/firewall/spyware solution and don't download files that are obviously too small for what you want.

you should have an antivirus installed in your computer, and when you're downloading a program or software download the .ZIP or .RAR files. =) i hope this helps you =)
