It depends on the circumstances, but generally, you do both at once, "Mary, meet John."

You can say the lady's name first if you want, but there is only a second between names. So, that detail is actually irrelevant.

You DON'T say, "Mary this is John, John, this is Mary." That is obviously ridiculous and a waste of words.

You also don't say, "This is Mary Jacobs from Finance. We have worked together for three years and we both belong to Toastmasters. . . " and then finally introduce John. THAT is rude. You do both together.

The right manner is introduce the first whom you know later than the person you know before.

for Example.......if you lady first then that lady would be introduced first to gentelment.

and if you know man first than that man would be introcued to lady first.

It's customary to first introduce the man to the woman. The reverse is followed if the man is much older than the woman or is in a high social position.

One always introduces the lady first. Protocol. Unless it's a king or PM or President or such like - in which case they always get introduced first. If it's a queen, PM (female) or ruler one introduces the male to the outranking female.
